It is with heavy heart I write this...
I have finally reconnected with my best friend who is a paramedic who was sent from Georgia 2 days ago to Gulf Port, Mississippi before the hurricane hit.
He just reached me within the last 10 mins via emergency cell phone to tell me he was alive.
Thousands of bodies have been discovered throughout Mississippi in Gulf Port, Waveland,Hancock County,Bay of St.Louis.
They are hanging in trees and they are pulling them out 30 at a time. Entire families found drowned in their homes and washing up on shore.
The stories he could tell me were brief. National Guard is on the scene and arresting anyone seen on the streets.
The numbers are staggering and what I have been told tonight will shake people to their foundation as the numbers will be coming out in the next 24-hours of just how many people have actually perished in these and 3 other beach communities.
More to follow....

With 2 or 3 days notice - which they had, anyone can leave.

I'm curious how they fared given the pressure that water creates. They could be dislodged Fox had some footage this afternoon of caskets sitting on a beach. They didn't say where they were from. ie: cemetery or destroyed funeral home.

Please accept my late thank you for posting this early (for me) this morning. It has been a fascinating story and I wish you hadn't responded to attacks. Why bother?
Hugh Hewitt is a dork; and an idiot.

hiya, glock!
Hope you're doing well...do you have any family/friends in the devastated areas?
To: EveningStar
He wanted a report from a valid news source (ABC, FOX, AP, etc) rather than one from someone saying that he heard it from a friend. I just think Hugh overreacted big time. At the least.

Glad to read your friend is still safe. God bless him, and all the workers who are doing all they can.

Gee thank you for your reasoned and invaluable addition to this dive into FReeper mass hysteria.

but many apparently intact (based on aerial photos). Heaven only knows what state of disrepair they're in. This is awful.

Please don't forget that these are tourist areas, and the number of people present could exceed the population figures by a great deal. I'm sure that many, many people evacuated from the coastal areas, but many also chose to stay based on whatever security they felt based on past events.

"Note that the MSM is now quoting 'off-record' fema and rescue people as describing the biloxi back bay/ocean springs recovery ops as no longer rescue, but rather 'bag and tag.'"
Ahh yes the unnamed FEMA source. About as reliable as the unnamed White House or unnamed Pentagon official.
"You might also take note of the NO Mayors public comments on casualties into the thousands."
Maybe that's becaseu they have more important things to do rather than preen in front of the camera to giv the media a soundbite.
"What do you think?"
I still think he posted an uncorraborated story designed to do wxactly what it's doing right now.

If anyone has read anything about the effect of this upon the European economy, I would be interested in receiving the reference. When we were in UK in August, the cost of gas was approximately $9/gallon. With unemployment in France and Germany at 10-13%, how will increased fuel costs effect their situation? They may be facing a serious recession given their unemployment and predilection toward high taxes and costly social programs.
Alas, something else they will blame US for.

Please don't forget that these are tourist areas, Some tourists stayed only because they couldn't get out, no rental cars, no flights, nothing. What a vacation, eh?
