When we persistently as a culture give God the finger . . . at some point, He must respond.Voodoo, infanticide, the extreme excesses of Mardi Gras etc. are not ways to win God's favor.
Is your Pastor named Phelps by any chance? (Asshole.)

", the surge is more comparable to a fast-rising of water up not a horizontal effect like a wave. The surge is high water that surrounds the entire 'cane. Once the cane hit's shore and the winds vector points inland, the water and waves follow that path. The surge was 20-22' and the wave height was 40-45' beefore it hit land. What was left of one beachfront hotel in Biloxi had signs of being hit with wave action 40 +'up.
IOWs, tides happen w/o huge waves coming in and 125-1400MPH winds.

Between all three states or all states where Hurricane now TD Katrina has visited?
And do we count the hospital patients that died at the Superdome and the people that might have had heart attacks fromthe stress of the hurricane?

The poster of this thread has long-proven his credibility in FR. He has never posted lies or outrageous statements, claiming them to truth.
You seem to think that anonymously posting a hearsay account is more reliable than our vulturous national media. You will recall that on 9/11, they didn't shut off the cameras. Plenty to horrify there too. They're liberals, sure, but their most basic attribute is that they are vultures. And they're hungry for ratings.
Law enforcement routinely hides information from the citizenry....they don't think people can handle truth....that it makes matters more panicy...I disagree with their doing that, but they do. I have no doubt that either the editors or journalists have had their arms twisted to not speak out about this yet, either by LE or their management.
When you enter Black Helicopter territory, we have left reality far behind us...

As am I puzzled by posters who automatically think conspiracy when someone says they will deal in what they are authorized to say.
Maybe...thats their way of letting it be known they are dealing only with the hard facts they know to be true and will not take any wild guesses that cause panic in the people like some are doing on here.

I am talking to my Mom on Yahoo IM and she says on the news the left wingers are already blaming Bush for this. She heard it from one person but doesnt remember who it was.

Well, he's (MFH) acting as a citizen reporter. And, judging by his posting credentials, should he have heard secondhand information-which I take to be an intermediary--he would have reported it as such. The first person witness is who he quoted and identified as his friend, an EMT. It's secondhand to us, but firsthand to MFH, no? V's wife.

You have pointed me to a post which reads:
"French built houses using stone to last for long time. I guess French quarter will survive the exposure to water."
I'm guessing that's not the one you wanted.

"People were talking about this being "God's Justice". Yes there have been people talking about this in Biblical Proportions."
I don't know what the threshhold is for an event being of "Biblical proportions," but in my book, this qualifies. As for this being a sign of "God's justice," it's natural for people who believe in Divine Providence to try to interpret events according to that belief, and a disaster such as this is obviously more likely to be interpreted as punishment rather than reward. (In fact, even agnostics and atheists often tend to interpret events as involving some kind of "karma" or impersonal justice.) In the Old Testament, catastrophic events were typically interpreted as signs of God's disfavor. Jesus, however, said that God let's the rain fall on the just and the unjust alike. So even within the Judeo-Christian tradition, there is more than one way of looking at it.

FreeRepublic is a much more reliable source than the MSM. Stay around awhile and you will see. I knew that missiles were sent by Clintoon half a day before he did it by reading FR. With your criteria, the only way I'd found out would have been when Cohen lied to MTP about the issue.

The DUmmies will blame Bush no matter what. One claimed on a thread that he was golfing when Katrina hit. As a Freeper pointed out "At 6AM?!" They don't care how absurd their claim is.
Bush couldn't make a declaration to evacuate. That's why he was begging the govenor and mayor of NO.

I'm watching the news right now and not seeing any of this cataclysmic end of the world destruction people are talking about on here.
I don't doubt the numbers will be in the hundreds or over a thousand. But this report, still unsubstantiated and with no follow-ups from the poster, indicates "thousands" which means more than two thousand victims now. And they're supposedly in plain sight in the killer trees and in Rockwellian family groups down on the beach or in their homes.
It still doesn't wash. And the longer we go without confirmation, the less likely it is to be true.

Why has this catastrophe gotten FReepers to trash one another so badly. Over the course of the last few days I can not remember this happening so much. Stress. Plus, FReepers aren't known so much for being friendly (other than the cliques), as being steely-eyed skeptics.
