Anti-war defeatism

By: RICK REISS - For The Californian

Recently anti-war protesters staged a demonstration at the Temecula Duck Pond in solidarity with Cindy Sheehan, an anti-war activist who lost her son in battle in Iraq.

Anti-war advocates frequently throw out the line that "you can support the troops while opposing their mission." This is to somehow imply that all dissent is patriotic. Sorry, but that dog don't hunt.

Suppose that you are a pro football fan and your favorite team is the San Diego Chargers. Imagine again that as a Chargers fan you claim to support the football players but do not support the team going to and winning the Super Bowl. Ridiculous? You bet.

Of course NFL football comes nowhere close to the life-and-death seriousness inherent within our armed forces. For almost four years now, our military has been combating Islamic-fascist terrorism. American troops are currently battling these thugs in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Yet according to newly anointed peacenik poster-child Cindy Sheehan, America is not only wrong for invading Iraq but also for overthrowing the al-Qaida-backed Taliban in Afghanistan. In case you have forgotten, Afghanistan is where the 9-11 attacks were hatched and orchestrated.

Sheehan further demonstrates that she has gone several bridges too far by stating "This country is not worth dying for." This occurred at a rally for defense lawyer-turned-convicted terrorist collaborator Lynn Stewart at San Francisco State University.

Even white supremacists and David Duke have cast their lots with Cindy Sheehan. For the Aryan skinheads, Sheehan's politics advances their cause to obliterate Israel and to kill the Jews.

So is all dissent still patriotic?

Other detractors suggest that the blood spilled onto battlefields by our troops is neither Republican nor Democrat, but just American. To this I would agree.

Yet why do radical anti-war activists with their political agendas choose to demonstrate at the non-partisan Temecula Veterans Memorial? Are peaceniks blind to their hypocrisy in advocating for a non-partisan military yet taking their political message of appeasement and surrender to military memorial sites? You cannot eat your cake and have it too.

Other radicals have taken such actions a step further. The far left-wing group Code Pink is now demonstrating outside of the Walter Reed Army Medical Center, where a large number of our wounded warriors are rehabilitating.

Will the health and morale of these recuperating servicemen improve with Code Pink's message of defeatism? Nope.

It's time for a reality check for these un-American leftists.

At 2.7 million strong, the American Legion voted to use whatever means necessary to "ensure the united backing of the American people to support our troops and the global war on terrorism."

National Commander Thomas Cadmus emphasized that "The American Legion will stand against anyone and any group that would demoralize our troops, or worse, endanger their lives by encouraging terrorists to continue their cowardly attacks against freedom-loving peoples."

Earth to Cindy Sheehan: Islamic terrorists are not "freedom fighters." Real freedom fighters are the U.S. servicemen who sacrifice, like your son Casey, to make the world safe for democracy.

"...Sheehan's politics advances their cause to obliterate Israel and to kill the Jews.

In essence, Sheehan's fight is pro-Satanic.

The Islamic jihadist want ALL Jews and Christians dead! Those protesting the war against terrorism can only be against the God of the Jews and Christians...a fatal decision.

***.... Now, the leftist anti-war groupies have found a live one, and are jumping on the bandwagon from near and far.

The groupies have created quite a sizeable coalition at Sheehan’s campout in Texas. Some of the headliners include Gold Star Families for Peace, Code Pink, Veterans for Peace, Military Families Speak Out and the Crawford Peace House.

All of these groups are on the steering committee of United for Peace and Justice, a major anti-war organization.

Also with a presence on UPJ’s steering committee is the Communist Party USA. Makes for interesting bedfellows, doesn’t it?

UPJ was the brainchild behind the march on the 2004 Republican National Convention in New York.

When 253 of its protesters were polled by the New York Sun as to whether they felt that “Iraqi attacks on Americans occupying Iraq are legitimate resistance” 67 percent answered yes.

This means Sheehan’s coalition thinks the kind of attack that killed her son is perfectly okay. ....*** Source

He did indeed. However, doing so was perfectly logical.

It is so irresponsible, seditious, really, for the MSM to give this unstable, anti-American creature a giant megaphone during wartime. That is why the NPR incident is so interesting.

NPR's Neil Conan had the courage and the intellectual honesty to pierce the mourning veil. His penetrating questions took her off message and confirmed what we suspected all along: Cindy Sheehan ain't too bright.

I was struck by her overweening, suffocating arrogance. This foul-mouthed creature, who is putting the soldiers--and this country--AT INCREASED RISK, actually thinks she can call the shots. Delusions of grandeur in real time. It isn't pretty. She has even reserved her place in the history books. A first, I do believe.

After the Washington Post poll yesterday, and her own blown cover, I suspect her 15 minutes of fame is just about over. Soon not even Sharpton will find her a suitable photo-op prop and not even Rather (if he had a job) would touch her scatological, anti-Bush screeds. (By the way, has anyone else noticed that Cindy Sheehan has a very limited, very rigidly structured repertoire of non sequiturs?) A one(off-key) -note Cindy, if you will.

The question Conan only obliquely alluded to:

How does an anti-American left-wing crazy--or worse, a standard-issue lying leftist manipulator with megalomaniacal tendencies--or perhaps even both--spawn a hero who twice volunteered to fight for his country? How does one reconcile the Cindy-Casey dissonance?

Surely Cindy Sheehan must have asked herself the very same questions. And her recent behavior reveals what her answer must have been, namely, that her paranoic, anti-American, anti-Semitic, anti-national-security radical left-wing ideology and behavior likely pushed her son in precisely the opposite direction; her lethally dangerous, vile and seditious non sequiturs likely provoked Casey Sheehan to re-enlist after the start of the war.

And hence the guilt, which she is dumping by the fetid truckload onto the president, and onto the country. She is one dispicable creature.

The left only adopted that mantra after poll numbers early on showed their denigrating of the troops was very unpopular. For survival's sake they switched to we support the troops but hate the war.
