I'm an ammature hurricane photographer - we "chase" a couple of hurricanes a year. But I stayed the heck away from this one - I understood the historical nature of atmospheric pressures that low and the greography around New Orleans- but lots of people don't.
Also, when we go into or out of a hurricane area we are prepared to pay more for everything - food, water, hotels, rental cars - we figure a couple hundred dollars a day. Seriously poor people without their own cars might not be able to handle to costs.

At this point everyone needs to find out how to rescue the people trapped in this hellhole. People are without food, water, sanitation and medicine. Let's get this job done ASAP.
After a day or two more of this deprivation the human tragedy will be unworthy of a country like ours.
Broken levee's, failed pumps, no proper shelter, no stockpiles of food, water or medicine, no transportation, no law enforcement.
New Orleans IMHO is a man made technologically disaster that just needed a decent hurricane to set into motion.
There is a -whole- lot of blame to go around but when are the inhabitants going to ever be helped?
