The bridge that fell was not over the Mississippi River, it was between Slidel and New Orleans. Certainly one must look for underwater obstructions, but there are oceangoing vessels sailing up the Mississippi to Baton Rouge right now, just not cruise ships.

Thanks! I had just heard they wanted to make sure the channel was very clear before bringing them up river and they mentioned a bridge down.
