I've been wondering about the NASA tank factory, Michoud Assembly Facility, in New Orleans.

I saw someone mentioned that Stennis Space Center survived with some damage, but not as bad as closer to the coast.

A friend of mine lives in Pascagoula. He hasn't e-mailed me since Sunday, but I'll try again and see if he answers. I'll post if I hear anything.

I saw a report tht was for me pretty funny in that it presented the shipyard engineers a whopping problem.

They had in drydock.....Mobile I think a FLOtel, a huge floating structure that attaches to an oil platform and serves as housing etc for 450 workers.

It broke its moorings and floated upstream in a small river until it lodged against a bridge. It is now stuck. A bohemouth 200+ feet high structure lodged in a river now gone down.

In the face of all the destruction this most unusual event provides comic relief.

It was not in Mississippi.

It's not really funny, but as the wife of an ex-yahhhhd marine electrician, I hear you loud and clear.

(Then again, with Brunswick on the chopping block, does it matter?)

Got a very brief call from a resident today via cell phone. The entire town is under water, but I don't know if it is to the doorways or the roofs. Regardless, he's a little ticked that NOTHING has been said about Pascagoula, PERIOD. My wife talked to him (high school buddy and 20-year Navy wrench) for only about 45 seconds. If it is anything like Gulfport / Biloxi (and I'm sure it is) there's a lot of dead people in the houses that didn't collapse. Hammered...

Of course this is the best reason to keep two ship building areas plus a third in CA. Nothing wrong with redundancy.

That doesn't sound good. On Sunday afternoon a friend of mine in Pascagoula was debating on whether or not to leave for higher ground. I haven't heard from him since then. Hopefully, he's OK.
