The oil companies would be able to expand their oil production, but why should they?

Okay, I get it, you hate the oil companies and everything in the world is their fault. Evil! Evil! Evil!

Why don't they drill...how about in California where they were all set to start the drill bit turning and all it took was one judge to say, "No you can't drill until you redo the environmental impact studies that you have already done." It guarantees that drilling will not start for another 2 years.

Where will the new oil come from? Well, try Calfornia, Alaska, Florida, Montana, Utah and Colorado. Their was no expanded drilling in the Energy bill because the Democrats wouldn't allow it. There is a provision for a national inventory of all known oil reserves. When that is completed it will be totally shocking how large the cumulative reserves of the US are. Of course, currently, nearly 50% of them are off limits. The oil companies will go get them, just as soon as they have permission to do so. But their are too many people like you who would rather demonize the oil companies and provide cover for the Democrats and Eco freaks who block energy production at every turn.

Am I attacking you? I think we could discuss this a little bit more mature.

All I am saying is that if they truly wanted to start drilling, they throw some lobbying money towards a few Senators or Congressmen, and its a done deal. Every other big business does it. But it is pretty obvious they are not spending. Why should they, they are raking in tons of cash.

Okay, let's use your logic. Name 5 Democrat senators who will change their vote on Anwar if the oil companies throw money at them?

But it is pretty obvious they are not spending. Why should they, they are raking in tons of cash.

You ask the question, give the answer and then ignore the real cause of the problem. You hold the oil companies responsible for not letting themselves drill. Examine the logic. If it makes sense to you, well...

Building a city below sea level, or building a home in a flood plain, defies logic. Sooner or later it's gonna getcha.

They didn't build the city below sea level. They built the city, then later the city sank, as the surrounding waters rose.

As for "building on a flood plain", most of humanity lives in a flood plain -- mankind likes living near water (for sound survival and economic reasons), and on flat ground (ditto).
