DAILY NEWS CITY HALL BUREAU

Rep. Charles Rangel, dean of the city's congressional delegation, blasted Vice President Cheney yesterday as a "sick man" who "grunts a lot." "Sometimes I don't even think Cheney is awake enough to know what's going on," Rangel (D-Harlem) said during an interview on New York 1 last night.

"[Defense Secretary Donald] Rumsfeld is the guy in Washington to watch. He's running the country," Rangel added.

"He's a sick man, you know," Rangel said of Cheney, prompting host Davidson Golden to point out that the vice president suffers from heart disease.

Rangel retorted, "He's got heart disease, but the disease is not restricted just to that part of his body. He grunts a lot, so you never really know what he's thinking."

Asked whether he thinks Cheney is healthy enough to do the job, Rangel said, "Why do you think people are spending so much time praying for President Bush's health?

"If he ever leaves and Cheney's in charge, there's not very much to pull together for the rest of our nation," he said. "This is a sad state of affairs."

Rangel, who was on a roll last night, also took a potshot at the President, who has spent the last month at his ranch in Texas.

When asked if Bush takes too much vacation time, Rangel replied, "Oh, no, it makes the country a lot more safe - the further Bush is away from Washington the better it is."

A spokeswoman for the vice president declined to comment.

Rangel may be reacting to rumors that Cheney may resign this winter, leaving Bush to appoint a successor to fill the VP post.

Of course these rumors have been flying around since the 2000 election.

As anyone who has ever watched Cheney in action in a debate or otherwise knows, Dick Cheney will CRUSH most people with a great command of the facts on the topic being discussed and be very aticulate.

Rangel by comparison always looks and sounds like a street wino mumbling and stuttering out utter nonsense.

The Democrats are becoming an extension of their moonbat base. Here the tail is truly wagging the dog - Charlie Rangel.

Libs have an uncanny knack of reading people. They have this kind of "knowing". They're most likely psychic...they can read minds, motives and hearts of people--especially conservatives.

Rangel - the leading racist of the New York delegation to the U.S. House of Representatives. Is it true that he and Al Charleton were seperated at birth?

That same poor education system is what keeps Shelia Jackson-Moonbat in D.C. arepresenting my home state of Texas.

If those idiots in downtown Houston ever wake up she'd be history.

Yuppers that him. He's the same one that drafted legislation to bring back the draft...then didn't vote for it when it came to the floor for a vote.

The comments were made and publicized (barely) before the hurricane hit. Since he's a dem there will be no repercussions.

He represents the thinking of the entire delegation of NY demonrat elected officials.

Don't you wish these comments would be publicized more? I saw Brit Hume mention them on Fox last night.

The guy seemed somewhat civil every time I've heard him on Hannity's show.
I wonder if Hannity will have him on and if so will he challenge him on these remarks?

Do you see anyone from the MSM rushing to her thighness and demanding a response to Rangel's comments?

Never happen.

After all, it's not as if he's Pat Robertson.

sarcasm intended
