Link to video of interview with Mayor 11 PM NOLA time. Pretty grim.

No hurricanes in Bush's first two years, must be the work of BL.
I'm wondering how New Orleans will be rebuilt, if at all. It just doesn't make sense to build a city under sea level when the sea is banging on the door.
Of course, Brawley California is a few feet under; but it's got a lot of room between it and the ocean.
I can't sleep; I can't believe that this is only being covered right now on CNN; I can't fathom how this could possibly be anything beyond catastrophic.
And so I pray. It's all that's left to us, and to the citizens of the Crescent City. God save them.
Sounds like the lake is doing what the storm surge couldn't.
Prayers for the folks down there, but I gotta add a bit of a blurb questioning the wisdom of building a major city BELOW SEA LEVEL.
We ain't carp, well most of us ain't!
That is a pretty grim assesment
The highrise bridge is the one crossing the river? He's saying it may not be sound.
My heart goes out to the residents...
This reminds me of the Chicago Freight Tunnel flood, although that only flooded the basements of downtown buildings. Can't imagine how long it will take to drain an entire city.
I hope they can come up with a way to get Tulane Hospital evacuated. I think I heard there are 1000 patients in that hospital. I call on everyone here on FR to contunue to pray for New Orleans and its people.
You're a good woman, dandelion. I agree with your prayer...
Yep, pray for the folks trapped by the rising water.
We've been talking about this on another thread:

Seems it's serious, but not quite like the lake just pouring straight in. Read some of the posts at this link for a better explanation.
...or RE-building a city below sea level, although I'm sure Congress will throw enough money around to do just that.
If the breach is in the canal then they should drop a few buildings into it to dam the canal?
Good idea. Someone else suggested stick barges in the breach.
barges float - lol!
