An *offshore* oil rig, yes -- the kind that drills for sub-sea oil out in the Gulf of Mexico. It's a floating platform with drilling equipment, which anchors in a likely spot and then runs a pipe with a drill bit down to the sea floor and then starts drilling.

So . . did they do any kind of safeguard thing to seal up the hole they made, or do we just have tons of oil oozing into the gulf now?

i had read that this rig was in drydock in mobile when it broke loose.

They do have safeguards and they did close the holes out there.
