They happened to play the phone call from Mobile, and now it seems that it was very poor word choice by the official.
To paraphrase : We are having disasterous flooding, and we think that one of our states Icons may not have survived. It appears that the USS Alabama memorial has been completely submerged, it is just gone.
Now after reading numerous print stories it appears that what is submerged is the park and all of the buildings. I am hopeful that that is the case and that the Alabama is not what is "submerged"

ABC News had a reporter in Mobile. Towards the end of his report, he had a video of the oil rig platform that was in for repairs. That is what hit the bridge. Nothing was mentioned in his report about the USS Alabama, so maybe that's a good thing?
Well, darn. The case of the missing battleship would have been a lot of fun.
I haven't read past your post about the Alabama being submerged yet...I don't think it is actually floating. I think they have it in place some how so maybe it is submerged as in flooded. Does that make since?
