IT was an Oil rig that floated into the bridge.

Have found no confirmation on the USS Alabama report. It was on a local TV station during a phone call, but there isn;t even a story on it on thier own website. HOpefully the caller just had the Alabama confused with the oil rig or something.

Was this the event CNN has been broadcasting since early morning? Looked like a barge with a crane / some soft of floating platform that had broken from its mooring and was buffeted against the pier, didn't look like there was much danger of it going further downstream, looked pretty wedged in with the current.

OK found this Blurb in a story in the Oxford Miss press -- Only mention of the USS Alabama I can find so far. It mentions the buildings are completely flooded but nothing more -- says reports are sketchy

In Mobile Bay, it appeared that waters inundated buildings near the historic battleship USS Alabama, a tourist attraction docked on a causeway that crosses the broad bay. It was impossible to confirm the extent of the damage, however, as the reports were sketchy and contained no commentary.

Confusing the USS Alabama with oil rigs was always a big problem for opposing navies. Many a lookout was lulled into a false sense of security -- "Hmm, what's that? Oh, it's just an oil rig. No need to go to alert."
