And what was the square mileage he just mentioned?

He went on to say 'people stranded on roofs". But it wont surprise me when we hear the death toll. How long will they have to hang on? Lots are old, infirm, handicapped. It's just dreadful. I hope rescue can go on during the night but the resources are limited.
As I understand it, the term 'causualties' usually refers to victims, or injured, or a combined number of injured and dead. Are you talking about the cameraman on CNN? If so, I am pretty sure he was talking about persons needing to be rescued.
I understood that clearly when he said it; why they ran with it as some sort of total area I have no idea.
