The area east and south of the river stretches for miles. With the levee broken, as it did in Betse, the water is rising as the river rises.

It hasn't rained in several hours in Nashville, but it sounds like it is just starting again. The rain looks like it is west and south of Nashville now according to radar and Murfreesboro is southeast. They are still predicting 3 - 5 inches of rain and wind through Tuesday, but the storm is moving quickly.
Murfreesboro is flat, low lying and surrounded by several branches of the Stones River. There are sections that always flood in heavy rain, but the whole city doesn't flood. If your family has lived there long, they would have experienced flooding before. Otherwise, I wouldn't worry too much.

Watching th WDSU video - it is taking them forever to break into a window for rescue because of bars on the windows. The residents are standing on top of the furniture with their heads at the ceiling.

The reporters where very depressed about it was all. I guess the report came from Fema according the WDSU forum.
I see no change in gas prices today (TX)....
I've yet to see comparable wind damage, but the surge appears to have taken many lifes and houses with it.

Do you have CNN on? The had a woman call in giving her families address in LA. The got cut off. They're trying to reconnect with her to get the full address so they can help to find her family.

OMG - the grandmother is in there. Can't get out, so they are using the axe to get through the roof.
