My question has always been, WHAT DUMB-ASS DECIDED TO BUILD A MAJOR METRO AREA 12 FT. UNDER SEALEVEL?

Ummm.... the French?

Of course the Italians built a city in a sea/ocean. And oh, I don't know, there's a city at the mouth of another great river as well.

What's your point?

We build and overcome. It's what we do. Sometimes we pay for it, and we rebuild again.

"I think someone is looking at their last term in the Senate."

Landrieu knows her only voter base is the "gimme, gimme, gimme" entitlement crowd that feels it's the government's job to take care of them cradle to grave, so that is who she plays to.

I guess that the small nuance that she is part of government is lost on her.

Yeah, tell that to the Dutch.

What's your point, exactly?

The Dutch and the Venetians aren't generally thought of as being in danger of any kind of hurricane, though, are they? Let's keep the apples with the apples and the socialists out of this.

For centuries people have been building their homes and cities on rivers, oceans, volcanoes, geological faults, etc. It all has to do with risk/benefit analysis. A once in a lifetime hurricane is the risk the citizens of a city like New Orleans take. They build levees and pumping stations to ameliorate the risk, but it still exists. They are not dumb asses anymore than building a city on the San Andreas fault constitutes a dumb-ass move. People have choices to where they want to live and suffer the consequences of those choices.

New Orleans will survive and prosper.

At least now I know where your "additional monies" will come from.

/sarcasm

Building a city on a major fault line IS a dumb ass move.

People have choices to where they want to live and suffer the consequences of those choices.

You know what my choice of living in Lansing, Michigan, with no oceanview, costs California taxpayers? Florida residents? The good people of Louisiana? FEMA is funded by ALL 50 states. ALL taxpayers suffer the consequences of those who choose to live in areas that are not fit for habitation. I can rarely afford a trip to the coast to enjoy the view, but I get to help fund those who want to live by the ocean whether I want to or not.

You couldn't make this stuff up. Landrieu just spoke on Fox News, saying that the damage to LA will be worse than it had to be because "the government" (Evil Republicans) didn't spend enough money on building levees and other protective structures for New Orleans.

Someone should remind Landrieu that she is the senior Senator from Louisiana and has "represented" Louisiana for 7 years in the Senate. If she feels the government hasn't spent enough to reinforce New Orleans, then the blame has to rest squarely on her shoulders. It's not Bush or FEMA or anyone else's job to represent your state for you Ms Landrieu. They cannot know everything there is to know that's local to every state and municipality. THAT IS YOUR JOB TO KNOW THOSE THINGS MS. LANDRIEU and then the get something done about them. And you didn't.

So snipe away Landrieu. The finger of blame points RIGHT BACK AT YOU. If you were unable to adaquetly represent your state, then you should have let your 2002 Republican opponent win so she could have done something about it.

Makes you wonder why the Democrats didn't take care of that while they were running the country for 60 years.

Not enough time I suppose.

Just what I was thinking! Actually, it is the RAT playbook -- Take a catastrophe and turn it into a campaign to bad-mouth the President -- nevermind that he had nothing to do with it.

Absolutely. Disgusting, isn't it?

Now I see where you are coming from. You would rather blame the people who suffer from a major natural disaster and claim that you are paying for it. So the people of New Orleans, Mobile, Gulfport, Pensacola, Miami, San Francisco, etc. are to blame for where they live and should pay for the consequences.

Building a city on a major fault line IS a dumb ass move.

So what do you think we should do about that?

You know what my choice of living in Lansing, Michigan, with no oceanview, costs California taxpayers? Florida residents? The good people of Louisiana?

That is your choice. People who live in California, Florida, and Louisiana must pay higher insurance rates for the choice of where they live to cover the additional risks of earthquakes, hurricanes, and floods. If you want an oceanview move to California, etc.

FEMA is funded by ALL 50 states. ALL taxpayers suffer the consequences of those who choose to live in areas that are not fit for habitation. I can rarely afford a trip to the coast to enjoy the view, but I get to help fund those who want to live by the ocean whether I want to or not.

That's right all 50 states support FEMA, including California, Florida, and Louisiana. So what do you propose to do with those people "who choose to live in areas that are not fit for habitation?" Who decides that and on what basis? I think you are suffering from coastal-envy. LOL.
