Well, yes, that's most certainly true, but I've been outside in approximately 90-100mph winds and I'm still here.

Stay out there long and you won't be. I have a bike as well and I been well over 100 mph on it. If a person is protected and in a debris free area then it's not a big deal.

Housing 50,000 to 100,000 people in hurricane conditions wouldn't involve a debris free situation.

Well, I was not much protected to speak of and was hardly in a debris free area (though nothing big hit me, needless to mention). It was during Hurricane Hugo. I was also outside in Hurricane Fran but the winds were much lower - in the 60s mph. Both occasions were due to ignorance on my part (I managed not to know that hurricanes were on the way).

That was a typo about Hurricane Fran, the winds were in the 50s where I was at - probably low 50s.

PS. Might I add that it is hardly something I would advise. It is nothing but pure blind luck that I survived Hurricane Hugo.
