Sure they can. Coliseum, athletic dept gyms, student recreational facilities, classrooms with chairs pushed into the corner.

You're going to house 50,000 to 100,000 people at LSU by stacking them up in classrooms with chairs pushed in the corners?

Beats the heck out of sitting at a dead stop in a traffic jam on the Ponchatrain Bridge or interstate... with your kids. Or trying to walk (if you can walk)(if you know what's going down) to "the shelter"... (if you know where the shelter is.) If these elected morons can "canvass" neighborhoods for votes, bless bess, they can do it for the biggest storm known to hit the USA.

You're drowning in desperation. Their basketball coliseum likely holds at least 10,000 just in the seats, plus more on the floor. Plenty more fit in the athletic dept gyms. More in the student rec facilities, which if it is like most universities has several indoor raquetball courts, gyms, a track, and weight room. That's easily 20-25,000 before starting in with university's numerous classrooms. And of course you forgot my suggestion of using local schools and govt bldgs, of which only a fraction are used for local evacuees. Nor did you remember that LSU could be used as a staging area to transport overflow to other areas of the state(using buses and trains in the 2nd 24 hours.)
