You know, you can make apologies for the mayor if you want. It is OBVIOUS to anyone who watched this that the mayor (and the governor) were paralyzed with indecision. When you have to be TOLD to order an evacuation you are not providing leadership. And there was NO plan to help poor people get out of town. They could have had all sorts of plans...school busses, shared rides, heck, they could have put them on boats and gone north on the Mississippi!

It is a disgrace and I remain angry at the incompetence which is obvious, if you ask me.

"the incompetence which is obvious"

We recognize the problems, but no one has offered any suggestions which are logisticaly feasible.

Boats up the river? How many boats? How fast can they travel?

Ask the people in the Carolinas and Florida if they think that mandatory evacuations should be taken lightly. They have been evacuated so many times and had such a hard time getting back that they don't even leave anymore.

Do these people not have TV or radio? Why do they need to mayor to tell them to evacuate? When storms roll through Georgia, I couldn't care less what some politicians have to say. I listen to the weather service and make my own decisions.

This is getting just as bad as the democrats blaming Bush for everything under the sun. I know you feel a need to blame someone, but sometimes bad things just happen to good people.

It was all so very odd to see the mayor stumble the way he did, because I had always heard that he was a significant improvement over the previous mayors. Had made some headway in cleaning up some of the corruption and improving the police force. But I agree that he made some major mistakes this time, that unfortunately will likely cost lives.

I listened to the news reports all day and am fairly certain that I heard them say that President Bush actually pleaded with them, or forcefully encouraged them (my words, not theirs) to order an evacuation. Did anyone else hear this?
