The storm is trying to suck in some dry air--we could see some more weakening in the next few hours.
I believe cajungirl is in BR also..did you see the sign in thread for those near the storm? Stay calm and stay safe!
True. I think it's coming ashore at a pretty optimal time. At one point, I'm thinking 12-15 hours ago, it was moving slower, and the predicted landfall was more like 11AM. The it sped up slightly, such that it's coming ashore shortly.
I'm saying I think this is better, since a storm coming ashore at 11AM would have been somewhat additionally-energized by the AM sun.
You've got to look for every little bit of silver lining you can get, on this one. :-\
"However they live in Metarie, so we will just have to wait and see how extensive damage is."
I've got fly. in Metairie too (as well as Chalmette, Kenner, N.O. East, Mandeville and Slidell). Grew up in Metairie; 2 of 3 my kids were born there. Glad to hear your family got out early and I'm praying for them all.
You be careful, I hear you're going to get some serious wind/rain in BR. Is that still true?
I am witnessing wind and rain really starting to pick up in New Orleans on the two webcams I have open. One is outside the Cat's Meow and the other is along St. Charles. The cam on St. Charles is starting to bump around a bit, so I'm guessing that one will be lost first... Rain is pretty much obscuring the view outside the Cat's Meow.
It is raining super hard in the French Quarters now...
The street can hardly been seen now on the BeadCam (click on BeadCam at link...

Great loop!
Yes, thanks, signed in. I will.
Thanks very much. This storm looks to be at least 4X larger, but could be 6X larger in energy than Camile. It's hard to eyeball and it's too late here to do anymore.
Haven't heard from LA Woman3 since she called me back and put me on speaker phone with her neighbors! She was pouring a big glass of wine for the trip--since she wasn't driving--lol.
It coming down hard on the Beadcam (Cat's Meow) cam
Don't know , it's been raining steady but nothing bad so far. Did all your family get out?
They just want the rest of America to pay for a new DisneyOrleans so they can hustle back to doing what they do - trading in corruption. If America says "hell no!", they'll be unemployed Three Card Monte street hustlers.
Lots of rigs/refineries in path of Katrina...$70.00 oil by Wed., U.S average gas price >$3. by Labor Day??
She is a hoot! I guess she went on to Texas or she would have checked in.
See #2009. USAF0021 found some more data.
OMG--she was cracking me up--"blonde Aggie" OMG--was telling me her Waco stories.

Sure is... sheets of rain down the street. The trees in front of the cam on St. Charles don't look too thick and they are doing well so far so the gusts aren't that strong yet...
To the best of my knowledge, they all evacuated safely and most are from here to Texas. God only knows what will left waiting for them when they're able to get back. It's surreal, isn't it?
