To: Dog Gone

Hang on, Dog Gone! Even if the worst happens, thecoming days will see stories of devine protection and great valor, to temper the heartwrenching devastation. I've seen it with so many hurricanes.

I have not, however, seen a Cat 5 landfall in my lifetime.

I'm going to try to hang in there. I tried to convince my wife's cousin this afternoon to leave New Orleans, but he's chosen not to. Fortunately he doesn't have a family living with him because I'm afraid he's made a fatal choice. Maybe he'll head for a shelter in time, I dunno.

I've gone from the fear and sorrow stage to the numb stage. I couldn't post here for several hours. I'm numb now. Numb is better.

You write amazingly well for someone under 13.

Hurricane Andrew was a Cat 5 when it hit Florida on August 24, 1992. I think they called it a 4 at the time, and upgraded it after they'd had time to review the data,
