FEMA guy Marty at the Superdome was asked about food: Oh yes, he says, the National Guard brought in 15 thousand MREs and 5 truckloads of water, enough to sustain these people for several days. (Um, they're estimating 30,000 people there already. 15,000 MREs means everybody gets half a meal, once. Hopefully the National Guard has delivered just the first of many truckloads of MREs, 'cause things are going to get really ugly if the people have to stay for several days without food.)
Things are gonna get real ugly in the bathrooms if people eat MRE's for three days....
WDSU had pictures about 45 mins ago of the 18 wheelers unloading food and water at the dome, said the NG was organizing it.
I keep hearing about how all of New Orleans will be under 20 feet of water. If this comes to pass, where are all these police cars, ambulances and fire trucks going to go? Are they being moved to higher ground tonight? And how will the 20,000+ people in the Superdome be evacuated if the city is sitting under that much water?
That's 2500 cases of MREs (12 meals to a case) per meal for a 30K crowd. Hope they have plenty of CH-47s to continously slingload meals in for a week or more, because chances are they won't be able to deliver that many by truck fast enough.
