Secured as best we can, 30 miles inland from Gulfport, MS. This one looks to be bad. Will check in and out as long as we have power. GOD watch over us all.

Virginia signing in. Our prayers are with you all down that way. After Camille hit in '69 it caused some catastrophic flooding in the Virginia. I'm praying that that doesn't happen again as well.

Bought booze and cigarettes to ride out the storm. In Chicago. All levity aside, you Gulf-coasters are in our thoughts and prayers, and I speak for at least 20 here.

Lafayette here, and barring any surprises (which are often in the offing with hurricanes) neither I nor any family are in the direct path of this thing.... but I've been worried about my 89 year-old grandmother in Baton Rouge since I heard a news anchor predict that this thing could knock out power across the entire southern half of the state. I will merely be miserable without A/C for a week; her life would be at risk. Good luck to everybody.

Richmond, Virginia throwing out some prayers for you folks on the Gulf Coast.

When Camille came through in 1969, after demolishing the coast, it ended up killing over a hundred people just north of where I grew up (Nelson County, Virginia) with 24" of rain in one night. Don't ignore these things once they get inland. Everybody keep your eyes open and your heads down.

Here's the latest.

If you are in the path of the storm, or know any other FReepers in its path, let me know where they are and I'll include them on the map.

I'm in NE MS. We expect to get muddy and breezy here. Son's girlfriend is here with him. The rest of her family are in Biloxi and planning to ride it out. Their home is about a mile inland. I am already planning to take vacation later in the week to head down for relief effort. I don't figure they will have a house left so it might be getting crowded at our house.

Maybe everyone could do what a few posters are already doing - put your location in your tag line, both here and on the "main" Katrina threads.

Well, I was due to arrive in N.O. in a couple of weeks for a few days.

I strongly suspect that there will be a change of plans...

Prayers out to all those in the South.
