Commercial airlines cancelled flights even scheduled for yesterday, stranding passengers. In my opinion the commercial airline companies should be investigated and spotlighted in BRIGHT light on these cancellations. It's 2:09 pm Sunday as I writ this and the weather in N.O. is still nowhere near minimal for flights. I understand Greyhound did the same thing.
If there are deaths in those areas deemed "last resorts" of the people who could have otherwise left but for this lack of service they should be placed squarely on the heads of these companies.

Valid point.
In Cayman, when a hurricane approaches, Cayman Airways adds flights to help evacuate tourists.

Airplanes don't fuels and service themselves. The men and women who do this have left with their families and what they can save from their homes. Airlines are not acting out of fear or selfish motives, they simpley cannot opperate without the ground crews and airport staff.

I could not agree more....These folks lost their opportunity as they were no given notice nor were they re-accomodated. While they may be bankrupt...Why wasn't some sort of consideration given to fund this possibility via FEMA or another organization.
The airlines could have had chance to do the right thing. They should have banded together for a change to come up with a way out for those folks that are not stranded in an unsafe situation.
I have seen more common sense ideas on Free Republic that really should be looked at in the future.
The school buses for example. Why risk the destruction of them...Why weren't they used to bus folks out?
Elections platforms will be all about safety next go around, lets hope people remember...
