I suspect a 100,000 or so. The media says that many don't have transportation. NO is the poorest metro area in the US, with a large underclass. That is why I am so pissed there was not a coordinated public transportation exit strategy put into place yesterday morning at the latest. Bush should have ordered it when the locals dropped the ball. That is what I would have done. Starting yesterday morning this storm really started scaring the hell out of me. Now I am absolutely terrified. It will be like that movie The Day Ffter Tomorrow.
Yeah, I told my wife that last night when I woke her up getting into bed. The military can move lots of people fast. You load them onto cattle cars, 5 ton flatbed trailers, deuce and a halfs and pack them in like cattle. They should have mobilized a couple of days ago. Very bad performance.
God bless and have mercy on those remaining in that stupid bowl.
Are you actually blaming our President for not taking over the situtation in New Orleans? When New Orleans officials have known about this for days, when there is not only a mayor, but a govenor and national guard there? Are you saying our President should manage weather driven disasters and usurp the responsibility of the local authorities?
The President does NOT order evacuaiton. He merely has the power to approve a request from the governor. If the request is late, it's the governor's fault.
