What catagory storm do they think the 1906 Galveston hurricane was? wiped out the island..killed 6000= people..
still the worst weather disaster in the USA? just wondered

It was 1900, not 1906. :)
The estimate was category 4. What killed all those people was the storm surge. Galveston is just an island. The gulf just swept right over it like it wasn't there.
