Holy crow. But this could be good news, right? Isn't a hurricane really unstable at that level of strength? Is there a chance she could kinda fly apart, weakening before she makes landfall?

ALSO...if you have a portable generator DO NOT attach it to your house circuit. And do not run it inside your house! Keep it outside, the fumes are deadly!

Yup. A CAT 5, with time to strengthen.
Time for an airlift out???
Godspeed to all in its path.

I just heard that! They are hoping it maxes out then weakens before landfall. Lets hope that is what happens!

With the clock winding down, it may be time to support the mandatory evacuation order (which came way too late, IMHO) with an airlift.
To: Right_in_Virginia
I'd support anything to get those people out of there.
I imagine it being me with my children....

Fox News is amazing. They're not covering this right now :( I'm watching Weather Channel.

And I agree that the evacuations came too late.

Yes, the 10,000 body bags they have won't be enough..if they don't get out.

I'm floored with the lack of coverage!

I don't see how it could sustain itself at that level for another 24 hours. Now, if it had strengthened right before it hit, it could hit with a full wallop. But now it's got a full day before it makes landfall, I can't see it. Has a 5 ever hit as a 5 after reaching that cat this far out?

WOW!
I don't think even Andrew was a Cat 5 when it hit Louisiana. We were without electricity for 3 - 4 days after that, in Baton Rouge!
Prayers for all FReepers affected by the storm. God bless bless and protect the life and property of each. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Difficult to predict. It would still be a h*ll of a storm.

Me too :( I definately wouldn't need a mandatory evac to get out of New Orleans though *lol* If all this stuff proves true, NO will look like a scene out of Day After Tomorrow.

I'm not sure, but the NOLA weather guys were speculating that is what would happen.
