Am I correct in understanding that the absolute worse case scenario is if the eye passes just tot he West of NO, becuase the right/front quadrant of the storm is always the worse?..

It doesn't matter at all with a storm of this magnitude. If it were a smaller storm, passing just to the east would be the worst, because the winds would shove the lake into the city from the north.

But in this case it just doesn't matter. The city is going to be uninhabitable for quite some time.

When the storm reporters on TWC leave, you know it is going to be bad.

Just now got cable back on here in Miami (had one snowy channel to watch). Thank heavens for the internet. Prayers going out for all in harms way.

This has already been debunked on an earlier thread, but hey, I grew up believing the "hurricane party" as well.

The lack of preparation is staggering. My MIL's retirement home had them evacuated within 2 hours of the evac notice when Charley was headed our way.

They gave everybody a bag, told them to fill it with 2 changes of clothes, medicines, etc, and report to the lobby in 2 hours. The staff traveled with them to another residence inland. They used buses, vans, etc to relocate the elderly residents.

They used wheelchair transports for those that needed it.

I can't believe more planning hasn't gone into this worst case scenario.

"WHY aren't they also using the other lane to escape? I thought that was the MO in exiting this kind of disaster."

Is that not thee most azzbackwards thng you ever seen?!!

Once again, if animals were on a convoy they'd use every road lane. Leave it to people...argh

What is the basis for his prediction.

Oh, I forgot. Don't need no stinking basis or evidence.

The superdome would be my last option. I'm a wee bit claustrophobic in crowds, and I don't like being trapped anywhere. Especially if that "anywhere" is below sea level and I can't see out.

Did you see the genius with two cases of beer on Fox News? LOL

He's going to be on the 4th floor of his hotel. Reporter asked him how he plans to survive if that floor and the whole area is under 15 feet of water.

These 'tourists' haven't a clue. What are they going to do for food after a couple of days, etc?

The aftermath is going to be as disasterous as the actual hurricane damage.

I think only the interstates are doing the contra-flow, so the causeway isn't included. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, though.

I just wonder where they plan to store the boats through the storm.

Under of water of course, where they will be safe from the wind.

The Red Cross does an EXCELLENT job. People who think otherwise do not know what they are talking about. Their job is to help sustain life for the disaster and during the disaster. Their job is NOT to rebuild your house or be a welfare program for your kids.

THOUSANDS of lifes are saved because of the shelters that the Red Cross opens before and during natural disasters.
