I just moved to the Omaha area and was looking for other FReepers.
There are a few of us, but I'm about 3 hours away from you...Omaha is getting more liberal because of the people moving in from other areas of the country. Lincoln, too is pretty liberal (for Nebraska) I think that's because of the 25,000 college students from all over.
Oh geez. I'm sorry. (((sending sympathy card)))
(Mea culpa. When I was living in the midwest, we referred to that area as "Omahahahahahahaha.")
Reporting In....
Originally from Norfolk (NE) and have lived in the Big O since '89.
Omaha is still a conservative town, the local media tend to be rather liberal.
The local paper is getting more liberal by the day .
The most intellegent part of the paper is the comics & you will see stories anywhere from 3 to 5 days later in the paper aafter read about them on the web or FR.
Welcome! I live in southwest Iowa - about 60 miles from Omaha. Nebraska is generally pretty conservative (with the exception of Lincoln), as is the western part of Iowa. Central/eastern Iowa, well that's another story. Omaha is improving - the downtown renovation has been great.
I live in Papillion (Sarpy County), which was just rated the "23rd Best City in America". I just started my graduate program at Creighton and I was wondering how liberal it was compared to other top-teir schools.
Congrats - Papillion & Creighton both have great reputations. I went to grad school at Univ Nebr at Omaha and Lincoln so I don't have first hand experience with Creighton. Based on what I hear, it's fairly conservative. In grad school, the department/major is more important than the college or university with regard to political orientation. I was in Psych - a department that is generally liberal everywhere (not as bad as Sociology or Social Work, though). Since I was an Industrial Psych major in Omaha I took quite a few classes in the business college - that kept me sane.
Int'l Relations Program.
I don't know much about these departments nor do I know anyone who has been in this department at Creighton. It sounds interesting, though. Have fun!
Sorry ya havent heard from more of us. If you would like to get together some time I'm from Lincoln just 30 miles from you. I know a little about Nebraska politics and would like to see if we (freepers) could get some regular meetings going.
