Rotting Away
by Chris Shugart
The ongoing Cindy Sheehan media marathon is but the latest chapter in the continuing tragic-comedy known to some as The Decline and Fall of the Mainstream Media. So obsessed have they become in discrediting the Bush administration that they dont even try to disguise their bias any more. Media rhetoric seems to have entered a new dimension of shameless propaganda that has completely abandoned all pretense of news reporting. And they carry on as if no one is noticing.
For three weeks (and still counting), the press has been singing in unison with the anti-war left with an incessant one note chorus of droning liberal angst about the war in Iraq. Even a casual observer would have to ask, why is Cindy Sheehans anti-war protest in Crawford Texas such big news? A more informed observer can tell you that the question practically answers itself: Cindy Sheehan is headline news because the mainstream media has decided that it should be headline news.
While many conservatives have been angered by the medias brazen soliciting of the left wings anti-war agenda, its illustrative of where the media and their liberal allies currently find themselves on the political landscape. Theyre nowhere. Unless you call knee-jerk opposition to anything endorsed by the Bush administration a viable political strategy. Liberals seem to think so.
The utter transparency of the medias concurrent efforts to assist liberal Democrats reads like an Auto Club road atlas. Its a clearly charted course that began in 2000 and hasnt changed much since. Bush is still president, and liberals are still crying about it. Meanwhile the rest of us have to endure the tedious haranguing that the press still insists on calling the news. Incredibly, they seem oblivious to what theyve become: a tiresome annoyance.
Watching the slow but gradual decomposing of the press establishment can sometimes take on the drama of watching a bowl of fruit decay. Monotonous from day to day, but inevitably leading to a rotten end nonetheless.

The left is totally out of control. The old gang-land, political mugging style of operation is not getting it anymore -- it is over. Let them keep flagging their blind, extreme radicalism -- and let's just hope people get fed up enough to not buy their stinking rags, or watch their leftist talking heads any more.
I watch the morning news for reassurance that the MSM still hasn't figured out that its streaking relentlessly toward and beyond irrelevance, all the while congratulating itself on its integrity and objectivity. It has evolved from annoying to amusing to downright comical. But I do sometimes yearn for Dan Rather's ultra-serious baritone and knitted brow while he babbled on as though anyone was really listening.
Eloquent. I must say, eloquently put.
The Fox panel had a clip of 'Mother Cindy' in what I guess was a press conference. There she was with a bunch of microphones in front of her and the press asking her questions about Iraq. I'm thinking what the ____. She mumbled something about us leaving Iraq and then getting along with the terrorist and then she left abruptly. Then Jeff Burnbaum said some ridiculous statement about not underestimating her symbolism, or something like that. Finally Fred Barnes jumped in and said what a bunch of nonsense the whole thing is. I thought I was dreaming and quite honestly I'm still not sure if I wasn't.
I must say, I'm genuinely looking forward to SCOTUS confirmation hearings. At least then the end will be worth the wait, unlike the "Ditch Witch" circus.
Actually, it would be an amusing experiment were the Bush administration to select some little issue of little consequence with a big constituency on the left, and adopt the left's position on that one little issue.
Well said. . .as well ;^)
Of course, they have not given up entirely the old-style political and 'et al' muggings. . .am sure they still have the brass knuckles in the safe.
"Getting along with the terrorists"?? Sounds just like Moonbat Cindy - after all, she doesn't place any blame on the people who actually murdered her son, she blames President Bush, as if he pulled the trigger :-(
MSM is America's, and world freedom's, fifth column. They've taken the precious gift of free speech, and are using it to destroy it and democracy.
Thanks for posting this.
They are quite a vile bunch of parasites....

I would like to buy them a ONE WAY ticket to Iran, and I will even pay for the parachutes...that would provide a great attitude adjustment for these bovine-IQ, mentally-challenged idiots.
(Denny Crane: "Sometimes you can only look for answers from God and failing that... and Fox News".)
Where do I go to say, I AM SICK AND TIRED OF CINDY SHEEHAN and get heard? (The local lib-leaning paper, the King County Journal, gets a pass because they are not reporting this non-news.)
Absolutely right. After Sheehan they will trumpet and then report to death whatever else is next. Oh yeah, the Roberts hearings are coming up. Just this year we have had, in no particular order, Abu Garib, Durbin/Gitmo, the Downing Street memo, the Wilson Plame fiasco, the who leaked what Novak column centering finally on Rove, the trashing of any and all Bush judicial nominees, the Bolton bashing, and probably several more I don't recall. It is a constant drumbeat of negativism about Bush and the Republicans, generated by the Democrats and carried non stop by the media. This will continue until November, 2008, and if we win again it will go on and on forever. Just consider it the death rattle of the left and the rebirthing pains of our Republic.
