TWO MORE VAN ZANDT COUNTY DEMOCRATS SWITCH PARTIES (Texas)

CANTON - The Van Zandt County district attorney and the Precinct 2 commissioner have announced they are switching parties from Democratic to Republican, marking the county's third and fourth party switches since June.

District Attorney Leslie Poynter Dixon said the Democratic Party's press release regarding the party switch of Precinct 2 Justice of the Peace Ronnie Daniell prompted her to announce her own change of heart.

"I had planned to formally announce my candidacy for re-election in December 2005 during the statutory filing period," Mrs. Dixon said in a written statement. "While, personally, I feel more comfortable discussing party affiliations during the legal election-filing period, I do not want to appear evasive or hesitant to discuss my party."

In a press release issued a few weeks ago, Democratic Party Chairman Vince Leibowitz said Mrs. Dixon and Commissioner David Risner had failed to return the forms necessary to reaffirm their candidacy on the Democratic ticket.

"We have already undertaken a search for opponents for all positions open on the ticket in 2006, and have had several people express an interest in the position of county commissioner," Leibowitz said.

Risner said his reasons had more to do with the local party than Democratic platforms.

"It seems like the Democratic Party was taking a real bad downfall," he said. "It's kind of like the Titanic - it was sinking and it seems like I had a lifeboat to get on."

The party switch of the commissioner and district attorney follows the decisions of Sheriff Pat Burnett and Daniell to run as Republicans in future elections.

"I still have a lot of friends in both parties," Risner said.

Mrs. Dixon said that though "the party has left me," she is not ashamed to have been a Democrat.

"I am proud to now say that I am a Republican," she said, adding that she will answer any questions at the formal announcement of her candidacy in December.

Are they closet republicans or closet democrats a.k.a. RINOs? My guess they are just RINOs

I don't want democrats switching to the republican party - we have enough RINOs as it is.

Sounds like they might be thinking this is the best way to get re-elected, not a true change of heart. Repent and turn away, or don't come to the GOP. Try being an independent until you decide you believe in GOP principles.

So you must be a Texan. If you aren't, then your post is moronic and out of line. Since your profile makes no mention of your location, I am suspicious. Most Texans seem to be proud of being Texans.

I don't get it. All he seems to be saying to me is that Texans aren't likely to be fooled by party-switching Democrats in disguise. What's wrong with that, other than it not being strictly the reality (as evidenced by several elected Republican liberal judges)?

Never ask a man if he is from Texas. If he is, he will let you know before long. And if he isn't, there is no reason to embarrass him.

We have way too many Dems in Republican clothing here in Texas. It's just a label to get elected, then let the lobbyists take control. What a fiasco it has been trying to get a cap on the amount property tax appraisals may be raised each year. A group called Citizens Lowering Our Unfair Taxes failed on two attempts to get Republicans to act on this matter. The legislators rejected a 3% cap saying we just can't afford it. Then, they turned around and lowered property tax appraisals-- and even changed the appraisal method-- to pharmaceutical firms.

Next, school funding has been in limbo for years. The governor called a special session to get this issue resolved. Nope. The only thing our Republican majority could do is vote to raise their salaries and give cable companies telcom rights.

Time for some new blood in Texas. IMHO.

MY friend, after looking at your screen name, i now know why you have a problem with my post. "ducksfan"- i would think its safe to guess that you are form Cali. i have no personal grudges with the people of california, only their politics. You must not have liked the little barb i took at Californiastan in my previous post..

With that being said... i sent you a PM saying basically what im saying here, however i feel its appropriate to confront you on this thread in front of others to point out your arrogance... No i am not a native texan, however, i am in the middle of relocating there because of work.. so i am not claming to be a texan in any way, shape or form..

I dont see why you called my post "out of line".. to suggest that i am a moron is OUT OF LINE on your part.. i was simply paying many texas voters a complinment because they vote on the issues they believe in like most people should.... i could go on and on but thats not appropriate.. a response from you is not required and i really am not going to check for one either.. have a great day

Risner said his reasons had more to do with the local party than Democratic platforms. "It seems like the Democratic Party was taking a real bad downfall," he said. "It's kind of like the Titanic - it was sinking and it seems like I had a lifeboat to get on."

So, he wants to keep his power and fears he can't get elected as a Dem? Not good enough. They need to run a real Republican against him.

Yeah, that David Risner, he's a real leader!

(The kind that waits to see where everyone's going, and then races off to try to get to the head of the line...)

Hey, y'all don't need to create new RINOs - we got plenty of 'em here in Denton County you can have:

THe whole Commissioners Court (except Cynthia White - she's a TRUE fiscal conservative - and cute!), the sheriff, the whole shootin' match is as big a bunch of spenders as we had here when they were all Dimcrats!

Why exactly did we work so dang hard to get rid of the Dimocrats anyway?
