Republican Congressman Ralph Hall addressed the Grayson County Bar Association Wednesday.
The elder statesman told a few jokes and gave the crowd an update on issues including the replacement of Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Conner, the war in Iraq, energy costs and special sessions at the state government level.
Hall said he supports President Bush's nomination for the Supreme Court, John Roberts.
Hall said Roberts is a fair man who will make a good judge and who should be "able to hold his own" in confirmation hearings.
While Hall said he does support Bush's nomination for the Supreme Court, the congressman said he does not support Bush's stance on the continued war in Iraq.
"I wish he would get on out of Afghanistan and Iraq and I have told him so within the last week," Hall said.
Hall said like other leaders such as Martin Luther King, Bush has a dream.
"This president might have dreamed he could fight a war and not kill non-combatants or destroy beautiful cathedrals or kill women and children. And he may still pull it off, but I think it is hard to fight a friendly war.
Now you can see my tagline and why it is important!
I wonder if anyone pointed out to him that Isolationism is a failed political philosophy?
Perhaps Hall should read a paper or something. The US is NOT at War with Iraq. The US is supporting the Sovereign Republic of Iraq against terrorists. What exactly does Hall have against THAT?
How old is this guy? Could he be senile?
Imbecile
You can actually argue for a near-term withdrawal without saying things so idiotic as that. Who in the hell thinks Bush thought that the war would not have civilian casualties and damaged buildings? It's so crazy that it has to have been sarcasm, which just makes him look like a jerk.
So he wants us to fight harder right, more "unfriendly'? Oh, he wants us to give up?
As some wines age, they get better, until one day, it's vinegar.
Some people get wiser as they grow older, until one day they're senile.
He's still a rat.
No, if he said that with all seriousness, he's just a fruitcake. It's not partisan at all.
In one aspect, I agree with him. We can't fight a war in which we don't kill non-combatants, or destroy religious monuments.
So, why should we worry about non-combatants or religious monuments anymore? Did we care about civilians in Japan or Germany during WWII? No. We did what we had to do to make sure the infrastructures of both were damaged to the point that 1)the faith in the leaders by the citizens was damaged and 2) to ensure that these countries could not rebuild their military and become a threat in the future.
That's what we need to do in this case. We need to bomb this region hard - Iran and Syria in particular. The citizens of these countries are as responsible as the governments they allow to sponsor terrorism. Everyone says, "Well, these people don't support that extreme wing of Islam. That's just the people in power." Well, the citizens of Germany allowed an extreme Nazi party to come to power. The Japanese allowed extreme Shintoism to dictate their policies.
How are these people in the Middle East any different. It's time to stop separating the citizens from the governments they allow to come into and keep power.
Well, at least he's not as loony as Barbara Lee or John Conyers. (I'm looking for some positive spin, best I can do.)
What color is the sky on this guys planet?
jeez.
I hope the VOTERS encourage Hall to GET OUT of Congress.
I can just imagine what they would have called him if he supported Bush.
"This president might have dreamed he could fight a war and not kill non-combatants or destroy beautiful cathedrals or kill women and children. And he may still pull it off, but I think it is hard to fight a friendly war.
He has no core values. He's a weenie.
We'll be hearing about more losers turning on the military soon, because they're gearing up for the 2006 elections. They don't understand the polls don't matter anymore. The democrats have nothing else to do but wait for pollsters to call.
The right wing politicians had better catch up with right wing technology, or they'll have no idea what's going on with the right wing majority in this country. The politicians are still way behind real America. They're still listening to pollsters calling government check recipients.
See post 10. Hall did change parties but he's still a rat at heart.

Representative Ralph M. Hall with former Secretary of Commerce, Don Evans.
That explains it. He's wolf in sheep's clothing, and his woolen garment has just been torn.
