Randy and Ronnell Vorick thought La Habra was about as far away as one could get from terrorism. They were wrong.
For the last 2 1/2 weeks, the lives of the couple and their three children have been plunged into an unsettling routine of drivers shouting profanities, stopping to photograph their house and most recently spray-painting a slogan on their property.
ADVERTISEMENT Their house, a suburban fixer-upper the Voricks bought three years ago, was wrongly identified in a cable news broadcast as the home of a terrorist.
"I'm scared to go to work and leave my kids home. I call them every 30 minutes to make sure they're OK," Randy Vorick said.
"I keep telling myself this can't be happening to me. This can't be happening to my family. But it is. I want our lives to be normal again," he said.
In what Fox News officials concede was a mistake, John Loftus, a former U.S. prosecutor, gave out the address Aug. 7, saying it was the home of a Middle Eastern man, Iyad K. Hilal, who was the leader of a terrorist group with ties to those responsible for the July 7 bombings in London.
Hilal, whom Loftus identified by name during the broadcast, moved out of the house about three years ago. But the consequences were immediate for the Voricks.
Satellite photos of the house and directions to the residence were posted online. The Voricks told police, who arranged for the content to be taken down. Someone even removed the street sign where the Voricks live to provide some protection.

You can take the towelhead out of the cave, but you can't take the cave out of the towelhead.....
maybe this Loftis will buy them a new place somewhere else to try and make up for it
Okay.... WHAT the heck does THAT mean?????
The "terrorist" lived in the house three years ago and turned it into a "fixer-upper." "Terrorists" are more suited to living in caves than is houses in a civilized society.
What on earth is that comeback? These people were wronged by a really stupid mistake. I don't blame FOX so much except they were asleep on the "censor" button I guess. Loftus was just plain stupid.
Look, just because you are a Muslim does not make you a terrorist or a bad person. There are a BILLION of them that are fine people like everyone else. It's the radical ones that like to blow people up that I'm concerned about. Loftus should be fired over this.
it really WAS funny...
The comment referred to the terrorist who did ACTUALLY live in that house three years ago. He turned a nice suburban house into a "fixer-upper." (Read the article.)
My point was that terrorists are better suited to living in caves rather than in civilized society.
Keep telling yourself that until one of the 'good ones' cuts your throat. There may be some good ones out there, but there is no way to distinguish them from the supporters of terrorism.
Fox blew this big time.
Of the BILLION of them, several HUNDRED MILLION (in typical polls) support the terrorists.....
Loftus is an idiot. I can't understand why they continue to give him airtime, but for the theory that a broken clock is right twice a day. I'd rather take advice from a dog with a Ouija board.
Loftus swore that his 'sources' assured him that Saddam Hussein was dead in the bomb attack on the first night of the War.
I'll take my chances.
Phone calls and e-mails ain't goin to do it. They should get a lawyer and go after Loftus. They should be able to get a sizeable settlement.
I agree. I hope they pay this family lots of money and they are more careful in the future.
Exactly. I figure it'll take 200,000 dead terrorists and 2,000,000 sympathizers in internment camps to get a handle on the problem.
And if anybody can't stomach these numbers, read up on the Battle of Stalingrad in WWII. It really puts the War on Terror in perspective.
OK, I've read the article. Maybe I'm just tired, but I can't find any indication what the previous occupant turned a nice suburban house into a fixer-upper. I don't see any reporting of the condition of the house before Hilal lived there.
Please quote the part of the article making this claim. Thanks.
"He turned a nice suburban house into a "fixer-upper." (Read the article.)"
YOU made an assinine comment... Point out this "nice suburban house" your talking about?? It's a suburban "fixer-upper", a hell of alot different than them taking a nice suburban house and turning it into a fixer-upper...
Take your own advise, read the article yourself before you show your bigotted side by accident........
