A local talk show host (John Carlson) was talking about this today. A big scandal is brewing.
The police had the video tape (two videos?) within a few days of the incident.
Why wasn't it released until now? Carlson thinks its because it was the height of SeaFair (a major local event that lasts a week or more) and publicity of something like that taking place would have squashed the $$$ to be earned by businesses and bars and restaurants in downtown Seattle during the rest of SeaFair.
Side note of mine: I think it is a race thing, but not a hate crime. Blacks can claim that since it was black-on-black crime, it's wasn't newsworthy and the police were in no hurry to solve it. They can say that if it were black gangs beating up lily white preppies, you can bet the police response would have been different and immediate.
At least I am surprised no one is saying that yet (that I've heard). Mark my words: it will happen.
No, in the video it looks like the perps were all black and the victims were white. It was hard to tell with them on the ground.
