While news cameras were filming the event, Marine Jeff Key physically grabbed a cameraman from San Francisco local affiliate KGO. Key objected to the cameramans shooting position, which was on the same site where the protesters have erected crosses listing the names of fallen soldiers in Iraq. Here's a photo from right before the altercation took place:
I asked Mark Matthews of KGO about the alleged assault, Im not happy about it. Were happy to abide by the rules when we know what the rules are. But there was no message communicated to us to stay out of the crosses. And last night, photographers, supporters of Cindy Sheehan, people praying, clapping and singing were here amongst the crosses. 13 hours later, its off limits without any notification to us.
I asked one of Sheehans spokeswoman if she condoned Keys assault of the cameraman. She would not answer my question directly, instead saying, I think if we all do our fair share, well work to keep everybody out of the way Thats all we need is to have people stay out of the crosses I think thats all being worked out privately. I think the cameraman and the Iraq veteran was doing his best to honor the fallen will work it out.
Here's a pic of the spokeswoman who refused to answser my question:
"You must be kidding...."
I just object to hateful talk against anyone but killers, rapists and terrorists (and the like). I don't like the liberals who protect the above and so I usually don't object to hateful talk about them either because their policies hurt America, but its complicated - usually by the fact that, liberal or conservative, we're all just Americans trying to do what we think is right.
Is it normal for someone to serve 20 years in the USMC and never advance further than Lance Corporal?
I would think that most people who spend 20 years in the USMC would have advanced to at least E-6 in all that time.
"And to use MY Father, who is now resting in peace, against me in an attempt to discredit me. Have you no shame? You can say whatever you want about me. The relationship between my Father and myself is for our Family. And if your last name isn't Viges, you are just out of luck."
Ironic.
If only Cindy Sheehan had your attitude.
Kudos to you for having the stones to express what is a decidedly unpopular view on FR.
A completely vapid sentiment.
Every major atrocity in world history has generally been committed by people who were doing what they thought was right.
"They are trying to prevent the names from being publicized because relatives have asked for the names to be removed."
Exactly!
LOL!
bttt
"Every major atrocity in world history has generally been committed by people who were doing what they thought was right"
Voting for afirmative action (for example) is not a "major atrocity". Thus, the statement that "liberal or consrevative, we're all just Americans trying to do what we think is right" is not a completely vapid statement. It puts into perspective our political differences. Your hyperbole attempts to take things back out of perspective.
No one informed me that the topic of the thread had switched from an insane, evil woman who is aiding and assisting atrocity-committing terrorists to affirmative action.
Let's follow your bait-and-switch ploy to its conclusion anyway.
Then we can say that every stupid, destructive policy initiative in American history has generally been perpetrated by people who were doing what they thought was right.
Regardless, people who abandon objective reality for their own personal whims are not morally equivalent to people who do the right thing.
One side is wrong and one side is right and useless platitudes like "we're all just Americans" say nothing and accomplish nothing.
So-called "Americans" who spend all their time and effort tearing down America are not "just Americans" they are enemies of and traitors to America and their offense is not reducible to a matter of taste.
"The frontlines..."
I totally understand where you are coming from here. This stuff is repugnant and worthy of our contempt. Its why I'm on the Freerepublic man. My comments weren't for the hairy, pot-smoking, molotov cocktali throwing, spit-on-vets variety. The way I see it, most liberals aren't represented by the DU, nor most conservatives represented by the FR. The liberals I know think they're smarter than us because they live in the city and get their current events from Jon Stewart and the MSM. Most of them have never never thrown a molotov cocktail at a WTO protest, nor smoke pot (currently), stolen documents from the national archives, etc. On the other side, most conservatives I know have never shot an abortion doctor, have never burned a minority alive, mow down crosses, or any other false impression given about conservatives by the MSM. Most conservatives go to church, are family oriented, have an aggressive stance to our enemies, etc. So there you go.
It's down the road from Davis, but your point is fine.
"wife, daughter and step-daughter"
I couldn't get in. I tried to sign up and it wasn't free. I listen to his show on WMAL, when I can, and occasionally read his articles but that's as far as it goes. I'm sure you have a nice family, my apologies.
Beautiful family, and they were right, and brave, to protest the protestors.
Regarding the article: I love how the left postures as if they are coming to the defense of the defenseless (our wounded/killed soldiers), but when they are rejected the Left spits on them. They've dehumanized our wounded - they can bleed (the more blood the better), but they cannot talk. Once a soldier expresses contrary opinions, the Left no longer "supports" them, but rather ridicules them for being "poor, confused victims" - in front of the cameras, of course.
The left thinks everyone is a victim.
