While news cameras were filming the event, Marine Jeff Key physically grabbed a cameraman from San Francisco local affiliate KGO. Key objected to the cameramans shooting position, which was on the same site where the protesters have erected crosses listing the names of fallen soldiers in Iraq. Here's a photo from right before the altercation took place:
I asked Mark Matthews of KGO about the alleged assault, Im not happy about it. Were happy to abide by the rules when we know what the rules are. But there was no message communicated to us to stay out of the crosses. And last night, photographers, supporters of Cindy Sheehan, people praying, clapping and singing were here amongst the crosses. 13 hours later, its off limits without any notification to us.
I asked one of Sheehans spokeswoman if she condoned Keys assault of the cameraman. She would not answer my question directly, instead saying, I think if we all do our fair share, well work to keep everybody out of the way Thats all we need is to have people stay out of the crosses I think thats all being worked out privately. I think the cameraman and the Iraq veteran was doing his best to honor the fallen will work it out.
Here's a pic of the spokeswoman who refused to answser my question:
She used a coffin as a prop, also. She's really good at it.
You nailed it. They've got "Arlington West" -- white crosses on Santa Barbara and Santa Monica, California beaches -- complete with flag-draped "coffin" and of course, a big sign with the body count of soldiers killed in Iraq (and Afghanistan?). They have displays of photos of wounded soldiers (wonder if permission was given?)
Anyway, it's a desecration of a real sacred site called Arlington National Cemetery and a trivialization of our fallen heroes for the sake of THEIR bankrupt politics, the "brainchild" of Veterans for Peace. It's time we did something about these "Arlington Wests."
The so-called marine goon is most likely on the board of directors of VFP.
He's one of the guys who met Cindy at the airport to "protect" her from the other military moms who want to wring her neck.
i'm bringing my bugle.
of course the gayweed could blow a horn.
Remember Bill Clinton and the rocks in the sand at Normandy.
Posed - you bet.
I'm sure Kenny Rogers feels his pain.
They don't erect crosses because of any religious faith or even as a memorial testament to these fallen soldiers. It is purely agitprop designed to weaken resolve against reamaining in Iraq. The war is over. We fight terrorists from other nations in Iraq alongside Iraqis.
This article had a tell-tale statement in boldface print in the hardcopy edition:
Camp Death -The site of Cindy Sheehan's war protest is crowded with opinions and ghosts
Gary Qualls doesn't want them using his son for their cause. But, like Cindy Sheehan's son Casey and 1,800 others, Louis Qualls is dead, and their deaths can be appropriated by anyone for any reason.
It isn't about respecting these men and women or their loved ones.
He doesn't follow politics. He's 13, but he saw what most people would see that watch the news about 1/2 hour or so a day. Cindy hates Bush more than Islamic terrorism, and it shows.
They look alike.
Texans are thankful that you avoid us.
"their deaths can be appropriated"
Pretty much sums it up.
If they had a cross in their little media display that had the name of one of my loved ones on it, I could care less about their rules.
It would be removed.
I would not allow my loved one's name to be used for their propaganda which is trying to establish that these loved ones died in vain.
They died preventing another 9/11 or worse; that is, they died honorably in the service of the nation.
OMG Gagging
Ok...I got suckered into reading the post also, I am now gagging too..Yuck.
Here's the URL to Jeff Key's primal whine about how persecuted he is and about how above it all he managed to remain while he faked his way thru his military service in Iraq. So much hate on both sides, it's really sickening.
ROTFLMFAO
Why?
It's hard for many of us to understand why you don't see that the crosses are not there to glorify the risen Christ, but for political symbology purposes. It is offensive that the cross of Christ is used by people who, as a group, largely tend to reject religion unless it is non-Christian, such as the New Age rituals reported to be going on down there in Camp Casey.
The demographics of the American Left are well-known; religious people tend overwhelmingly to be Republican; agnostics and atheists tend Democrat. The sponsors of the Sheehan travesty in Crawford such as Code Pink are openly Marxist, which is plainly visible on their web site, and Marxism is clearly anti-Christian.
For them to use the crosses after the Left in this country has made every effort, in conjunction with the ACLU, to have crosses removed from public places is a mockery.
