While news cameras were filming the event, Marine Jeff Key physically grabbed a cameraman from San Francisco local affiliate KGO. Key objected to the cameraman’s shooting position, which was on the same site where the protesters have erected crosses listing the names of fallen soldiers in Iraq. Here's a photo from right before the altercation took place:
I asked Mark Matthews of KGO about the alleged assault, “I’m not happy about it. We’re happy to abide by the rules when we know what the rules are. But there was no message communicated to us to stay out of the crosses. And last night, photographers, supporters of Cindy Sheehan, people praying, clapping and singing were here amongst the crosses. 13 hours later, it’s off limits without any notification to us.”
I asked one of Sheehan’s spokeswoman if she condoned Key’s assault of the cameraman. She would not answer my question directly, instead saying, “I think if we all do our fair share, we’ll work to keep everybody out of the way … That’s all we need is to have people stay out of the crosses … I think that’s all being worked out privately. I think the cameraman and the Iraq veteran was doing his best to honor the fallen will work it out.”

This is becoming like Kent State. Have one of the relatives take away one of the crosses. Peaceful demostration means provoking the other side to violence. That's what I learned from the sixities. Get a good bloody nose from your opponent, run to MFA cameras and let the drama begin.

The crosses obviously aren't 'pretend' as they are right there for everyone to see. But why can't you see that the original poster of that phrase was alluding to the fact that they are props? I know you know that but refuse to admit it and continue with your inane arguing.

I'm a daily reader, but seldom post. I've got to jump in on this one. Chesty Puller is rolling over in his grave over this NON-Marine. Not to worry, General. We'll take care of him one way or the other.
Let's recap. Someone called the crosses 'pretend'. I asked what made them 'pretend' - seemed to be a rather needless slam on whether or not those who placed them have any faith, or pray for their deceased, or whatever other implications one could take from them. It is a pet peeve of mine - assuming that anyone who doesn't agree with your politics is Godless. Since I've had folks here on FR make statements that folks I dearly love - or loved - are God-haters or nonbelievers simply because of their political affiliation, I tend not to let those lie. So I asked the question - which has an obvious answer, and an obvious point. Nevertheless, a number of folks decided to post to me about why those crosses are 'pretend'. They aren't. Everyone knows they aren't. But many aren't willing to accept that and want to keep on trying to prove that thay are. So I respond to the posts. If you don't like it, I guess that's just too bad. As for your question about why I'm here, when JimRob appoints you as the person who makes the decisions as to who is here and who isn't, I'll give you a response. Until that time, I don't consider that you not liking something I've posted is reason enough for me to have to justify my presence here.
