L.A.’S NEW POLICE COMMISSIONER CAN’T BE TRUSTED

Black Minister Calls For The Removal of John Mack As L.A. Police Commissioner

Los Angeles- Rev. Jesse Lee Peterson, founder and president of BOND, the Brotherhood Organization of A New Destiny, today called for the new president of the Los Angeles Police Commission John Mack, to step down after allowing protestors to disrupt and take over the commission’s meeting Tuesday. About 200 mostly Black and Hispanic activists led by members of the Nation of Islam interrupted the meeting, shouting “No justice, no peace.” Protesters intimidated board members into moving the meeting to a large auditorium so the activists could rail against the LAPD’s treatment of Blacks and Hispanics. They also demanded “justice” for the February police killing of 13-year-old Devin Brown.

The new police commissioner agreed with the activists, “These investigation go on forever… This has to be done in a more timely fashion… Just because I’m in a new position doesn’t mean I forgot my past.” After the shooting of Devin Brown, then Urban League President John Mack commented (before the investigation had even been opened) "Some police officers don't value the lives of young African-American males.”

Rev. Peterson said: “Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa made a grave mistake by appointing John Mack as president of the L.A. Police Commission. Mack cares more about the rights of criminals than that of law-abiding citizens and police officers. The criminal element in this city now has a voice in setting LAPD policy.”

Activists threatened civil unrest if Stephen Garcia—the officer who fired the shots that killed Devin Brown is not relieved of his duties. Mayor Villaraigosa sat and listened in the audience and reportedly did nothing to stop the chaos.

Rev. Peterson said: “It’s a sad day in Los Angeles when a bunch of thugs are allowed to take over a police commissioners meeting and threaten to burn down the city. John Mack is the wrong man for the job and should be removed from his position immediately.”

Rev. Jesse Lee Peterson is the author of the widely acclaimed book SCAM: How the Black Leadership Exploits Black America (Thomas Nelson Books). He is also a national radio and TV talk show host and sought after speaker. For media inquiries, call Ermias Alemayehu at 323-782-1980 / 213-804-1872. For information visit www.bondinfo.org

I'm not familiar with LA, but how does their police commission work exactly?

In NYC, we have a single police commissioner who is in charge of the cops, under him is the chief of police, I know Bratton is the Chief of police in LA, but is that the same as a NYC commissioner or is it a demotion or what?

What does the LA police commission do exactly or what role does it play compared with NYC's police commissioner or chief of police?

>Mack cares more about the rights of criminals than that of law-abiding citizens and police officers.<

Just like all the pulpit pounding fools who want 'justice' for Devin.
