You are jumping to conclusions. I said that given the choice between a Democrat, a professional politician and an Independent I would take the Independent
I will not vote for ANY Democrat and haven't since 1964.
I will vote for a Republican professional politician if I have no other choice.
An independent citizen that I agree with 85-90% running for office will get my vote every time.

Doesn't take long for the hysterical GOP Uber Alles crowd to scream about the sky falling, eh?

I was thinking the same thing, SC.

Thus helping the democrat who will vote for nancy pelosi to be Speaker of the House, and with her position directs the agenda of the House.

Sheesh when will you guys ever learn, that the Founders basically set up a two party electoral system.

And when when you learn that the GOP losing one House seat is not the end of the world?

You boy JoeBaca will be safe, and David Dreier's ass whill hopefully be toast, and the allmighty Republican Party (priased be their name) will still be in control.

Take your freaking meds.

Gilchrist is a good guy who will put California's interests first.

Then let him run as a republican in a regular primary. Spliting the vote in a safe conservative district during a special "winner-take-all" election is more than counter-productive. It's a shameful exercise in self-promotion with the possible result being the elevation of a leftist to congress!

Calm down, Dane. First we're "Buchananites", now we're the "hillary basement". Make up your mind.

Slow down, type slowly, and realize that more is at stake than the placing of gun turrets along the border! Just as radio jocks John & Ken almost got Drier knocked off in favor of a near-commie democrat during the last election, you one-trick-ponies of the anti-illegal immigration lobby don't seem to care what the end result of your anger truly is as long as the proper punishment for border-control heritics is meted out! Who do you think is going to oppose giving away the store to illegals when you suceed in your quest to rid the congress of Toady republicans in this ill-advised manner? Hold your political fire until THE PRIMARIES when you don't damage the over-all conservative movement for this one issue!

HUH! The founders "basically " set up the two party system?

What history book are you reading? The Founders rejected the idea of political factions as they referred to the parties.
What you are suggesting is abhorrent. You are suggesting that we vote for the party regardless of the candidate. My party right or wrong? Not this old man!

Zero chance of winning, but he has a shot at electing the Democrat.

Don't know about that, gilchrist is famous for his support of the death tax.

That has been debunked quite a few times.

Here's one post by EternalVigilance, with links to Gilchrist's real position.

Thus helping the democrat who will vote for nancy pelosi to be Speaker of the House, and with her position directs the agenda of the House.

A hysterical line of argument.

Republican leadership of the House is not threatened in any way by the outcome of the special election in CA-48.

I can smell fear in Republican hackdom, from Irvine to Sacramento to Washington, DC, over Jim Gilchrist's candidacy.

Too funny.

Jim Gilchrist does not threaten Republican hegemony.

The only thing he threatens is further exposure of Republican leadership's duplicity and inaction in securing our borders and simple enforcement of our immigration laws.

If we as conservatives can help Jim to win this seat, the message that will be sent to Washington, to the leaders of both parties, will be LOUD and CLEAR.

It will also set the stage for real change in the 2006 election cycle.

If the Republicans ignore this issue and end up losing an election they otherwise would have won, then they just might be forced to get their act together for the next election, whereas if we keep re-electing ineffectual or incompetent candidates because we are afraid to support someone who is not from the same mold as all other politicians who have failed us, then both parties can just keep pissing on us, because they know we'll just sit there and take it.

Well put. Losing one election, even in 2008, is a small thing in light of the bigger picturer. Either the GOP will emerge more conservative or a 3rd party will represent the conservative base. Either is better, since we are not represented now!

Just wondering, is the name Glenn Spencer well-known in border security circles?

I would think so. He has been warning us about illegal immigration for many years. I remember when he lived in Southern California and even went to one or two of his meetings. I think that back then people didn't realize how big the problem really was.

It seems to me that I heard he was working with the Minutemen when they were in Arizona.
