DUBAI: A group linked to Al Qaeda frontman in Iraq Abu Musab al-Zarqawi posted footage on the Internet yesterday of the immediate aftermath of last week’s rocket attacks on US warships in the Jordanian port of Aqaba.

The three-minute film, posted by the Islamic Media Centre on an Islamic website, shows two US warships moored in Aqaba, damage to a warehouse and a vehicle as well as security officers inspecting a rocket in a crater.

Zarqawi’s group, the Al Qaeda Organisation in the Land of Two Rivers, has claimed the attacks that killed one Jordanian soldier.

“Their attacks have struck their targets as they have planned. But as usual, the enemies of God did not admit their true losses,” the group said in Internet statement.

Before long we're going to be reading press releases put out by Al Qaeda saying they attacked and destroyed a whole military base in the middle of Nebraska.

Then they'll claim that we're covering it up, which is why it isn't in the news. And naturally, the Arab media will cover the claims, mock up some pictures, and maybe some video, and ignore the contradicting evidence and claims in the western media.

(That is assuming that the New York Times doesn't go out to the site, observe that the base is still there, and then conclude that evidence that there was no attack was inconclusive.)

It's getting pretty pathetic when the terrorists have to claim such a stunning display of incompetence as a victory. There was a time when they would have said "that wasn't us. That was some jihad wannabe. If it had been us, we'd have hit the target, just like Heather Locklear did in every episode of T.J. Hooker."
