What is the plan for the approved day labor site?
Herndon Times ^ | 8/25/05

The following is a summary of the approved version of the permit and governance plan that will control the managed day labor hiring site in Herndon.

Location: On the eastern side of the old Herndon Police building, at the intersection of Sterling and Rock Hill roads. It is accessible from both roads.

Features: A trailer, portable toilets, a covered shelter, a drive-through "toll booth" for contractors to register and request laborers, a food vendor, parking and bicycle racks

Hours: 6 to 11 a.m. Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to noon Saturday and Sunday, closed on federal holidays

Staffing: Three or more employees or volunteers must be on the site while it is open. At least one of these people must be a paid employee.

Other requirements: These are conditions included in the approved permit. If any of these are violated, the town council can revoke the permit.

Laborers will be told of preferred walking routes to the site when they first register. There will be sanctions for those who are found to have trespassed on private property while traveling to and from the site.

Workers may not be at the site after hours unless they are going to retrieve a bicycle or car.

The code of conduct for the laborers must, among its other provisions, prohibit laborers from congregating and lingering outside the site.

The site must provide information about federal rules for hiring immigrants and have federal I-9 forms available.

Other than matching workers and employers, Project Hope and Harmony may only hold language classes and meetings to give the workers news about the site. Referrals may be given to off-site classes and services.

Project Hope and Harmony will be contractor for this center. Here is some background information on Mukit Hossain who was the driving force behind the center.

What makes the 'do-gooders' in Herndon VA think these illegals are going to follow rules? These illegals broke into our country just as much as a robber would break into your house. They are illegals, they do not belong here.

Where is the MSM on this guy! (Don't make me answer that, I enjoy my privileges here). I knew it was bad in No. VA but this is ridiculous.

BOR needs to do an in depth, extensive report on this fellow.

This is an excellent blog--Thanks.

The site should include an office for the INS and a bus out back to transport those without a green card back to Mexico or wherever the hell they came from.

I'd like these clowns to keep an online list of the employers hiring illegals so I can make an informed decision when I need to have work done.

I had kitchen and bathrooms remodeled earlier this year. One stipulation I placed on the contractor & subs was no day labor. I found out that to be licensed, bonded, & insured they couldn't use day laborers.
