The real-life anchorman brawl between the cable news nets is getting out of hand. Last night on Special Report, Brit Hume threw a trident that knocked CNN off the horse it rode in on:
Televangelist Pat Robertson's political influence may have been declining since he came in second in the Iowa Republican caucuses 17 years ago and he may have no clout with the Bush administration, but you wouldn't know that from watching CNN today.
CNN covered his call for Hugo Chavez's assassination at length, undeterred by the fact that during the noon hour CNN's own analyst, Bill Schneider, said Robertson had little influence. At the top of the next hour, there it was again followed by a glowing report on the alliance between Chavez and Cuban President Fidel Castro. And it led CNN's three-hour "Situation Room," followed minutes later by live coverage of reaction from the Venezuelan ambassador, and then nearly two hours after that an in-studio interview with the ambassador.
Plus, there was a man on fire: CNN's Jon Klein told the New York Times that Fox's Natalee Holloway coverage was "easy," "brainless," and "meaningless nonsense."
Fox News responded by lopping off Klein's arm: "If Jon performed as well as he talks he wouldn't have to explain his network's dismal ratings."
Fox to CNN: I guess I'll just have to take you at your word, number two.
TVNewser notes that CNN is "having its cake and eating it too [CNN Headline News] is becoming the lowbrow channel, the one that broadcasts car chases."
Last summer when I saw Anchorman for the first time, I could only dream that one day, real anchormen like "Wolf" Blitzer and "Shepard" Smith would battle it out in the streets, like men. Today, that dream is one step closer to reality.
Got it. Quotes would have been helpful. Thanks, all.
HAIL ANTS!!
>>>I was like "who the f*ck cares WHAT that moron says" he has about as much clout in the overall conservative movement as I do. They sure did push this story though.>>>
Don't you get it??? This is the charicature of what the left sees ALL conservatives as and wants to paint that picture for everyone. As if we are all carbon copies of this aging jackass.
BFLR = Bump for later reading.
Please FReepmail me if you want on or off my FoxFan list. *Warning: This can be a high-volume ping list at times.
Thanks for the ping!
Briti Hume was great! I laughed and laughed after his tirade!
