Oil Expert Predicts Apocalypse, But Few are Listening

hink high gas prices are bad?

Get a load of what ex-oilman and ex-Princeton professor Kenneth Deffeyes believes are following closely behind:

"War, famine, pestilence and death," he said. "We've got to get the warning out."

The threat? Peak oil.

The term refers to the time when the worldwide production of oil peaks and begins a rapid decline. From then on, this incredibly efficient fuel source, which still costs less than most bottled water, will be ever more scarce and ever more costly.

Highly respected sources, including the U.S. government, think that day is distant, and most mainstream economists think it won't cause much of a ruckus.

But Deffeyes thinks peak oil is coming in November, and could bring humankind to the brink.

"It's been like pulling teeth to get public awareness," he said.

So who is this well-credentialed Chicken Little?

Deffeyes grew up next to gushing oil wells. He is a former petroleum geologist himself, having worked for Shell Oil for six years after earning a doctorate from Princeton.

He is a devotee of former Shell geologist M. King Hubbert, who correctly predicted U.S. oil production would peak in the early 1970s. Deffeyes is also the author of "Hubbert's Peak" and "Beyond Oil: The View From Hubbert's Peak," which was published last spring.

He is among a cadre of peak-oil proponents who sketch out a frightening near-term future in which the American way of life is upended as the United States, China and great nations scramble after oil fields like desperate players in a game of musical chairs.

We are told about "GENERATIONS" before The Adam was ever created.

Then after The Adam was created we are given his generations. NOT ONE WORD IS GIVEN about the age of the earth. Now why didn't Noah save any of these creatures???? Why, they were not here to be saved.

You lost me. What generations before Adam and what creatures were not saved?

Just blame the eco-wackies for everything, right? They get hit with all the blame here don't they? What about Standard Oil-Chevron-Texico-BP-Unocal? They are totally blameless, right? Wake up and smell the coffee or just follow the money. Who is getting richer every day? . . . DUH!

So what did Jesus mean when He said His "hour" had not yet come?

Was there a significant 60-minute period of time (no more, no less) He was referring to?

We have time to build nuke power plants and switch to electric/hybrids..

The Germans produced gasoline from coal in wholesale quantities during WW2.

Nuclear power plants, oil shale, coal can also be exploited and we don't have to wait for oil to disappear to do any of those things...

You take "days" literally to be 24 hours.

God is eternal. There is no time with God. Genesis is written in terms that we intelligence-deprived mortals can grasp. It's not literal. Could it be literally 24 hours? Maybe. Does it matter if it was or wasn't? No. It's not material to your salvation or mine. Hard science can't be tossed aside. God created dinosaurs, too.

Going back to the question I posed - do you take Jesus' use of the word "hour" in "my hour has not yet come," to be literally 60 minnutes of time, or figurative?

it's not "necessarily" literal, I should say (and most likely not)

If you want to wait another 20 years for the U.S. to develop shale. You may have the time. Most people can't wait that long. Oil will trading near $ 85 by December. Which means $ 4.50 a gallon at the pump for unleaded regular and diesel will be $ 5.50. Shelf prices are going up for everything. Bread will cost $ 3.50 for the cheaper loaves by next year. When oil hits $ 105 per barrel early next year the only people who will be happy are the Saudis. Do you have any quick solutions? No.

In the meantime, the same families that own Standard Oil-Chevron-Texico-BP-Uncal also own The Federal Reserve Bank. The housing bubble was created by the cheap money policies of Alan Greenspan. Greenspan works for the Fed. Who own the Fed? The same families that are in control most of the banks in the U.S.

The real estate bubble will implode next year at the latest. Foreclosures are coming to your neighborhood. Who will benefit from all those foreclosures? The banks and mortgage lenders. When Fannie and Freddie and other banks are bailed out by Congress who is going to pay for it? The same people who pay for everything in this country. You and me.

Who is getting rich and who is paying the bills? Middle class America is paying all the bills. Who is getting richer? Follow the money. The answers are easy if you ask the right questions.

The remarkable thing is that, historically, not a single technological or scientific breakthough in history has been a acomplished by people who specialize in "why it can't be done".

Not a single one.
Quite a coincidence, eh?

Just want you to know I am bookmarking the links you posted and will read up later.

I'd be interested in hearing more of your thoughts on this matter, particularly in the realm of "what can anyone do about this mess".
