Shooting Leaves Two Dead at Ariz. Wal-Mart

GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) - Two Wal-Mart employees were shot to death Tuesday in the parking lot of one of the retail stores in suburban Phoenix.

The shootings occurred in the middle of the parking lot, at least 50 yards from the store entrance. A body could be seen in one of the corrals used for collecting shopping carts.

Police spokesman Mike Pena said authorities were searching for the gunman. He said there were several witnesses to the shootings but would not identify them.

Delia Garcia, a Wal-Mart spokeswoman on the scene, said she did not know whether the victims were working at the time of the shooting. She said the store would be closed indefinitely.

"This is an extremely tragic situation. It has been confirmed that we have lost two of our associates," company spokeswoman Sharon Weber said from Wal-Mart headquarters in Bentonville, Ark.

Some of the store's 450 employees could be seen leaving the business Tuesday evening. The company was working to get help for other employees upset by the shootings, Garcia said.

Police cordoned off much of the parking lot, telling anyone whose car was within a perimeter that they would have to leave their vehicles there.

Authorities initially said a third victim had been wounded, but Pena later said that was not the case.

Glendale is about eight miles northwest of downtown Phoenix.

I quit shopping there myself.

Since the Chinese do not make the food I buy at Wal Mart that is where I shop, same with gasoline. I do not buy their Chinese made products, but there are plenty of American made products to make a trip worthwhile.

Oh, Wal-Mart causes high gas prices. I thought it was Bush's fault.

A man in an SUV with Texas plates began shouting angrily when he was blocked in his Wal-Mart parking place by two associates moving shopping carts during Indian Market weekend in Santa Fe. The man was freed before going ballistic, roaring off at a high rate of speed miraculously avoiding the crowds of pedestrians many of them children.

I am no Wally hater, but the more people buy from Walmart, the more the price of fuel goes up, as the Chinese demand for fuel rises so they can produce goods for walmart.

And nearly every other chain store in the US..........

This was scary.

I was stood at the light at the 101 fwy and Union Hills (where this was), and noticed a Glendale PD squad car, and an unmarked car, lights and sirens, suddenly pull out into the intersection and into Walmart.

All this about 15 minutes after the shooting occurred.

I've been in there several times, and will go in there if I'm working in the area. Very clean store, and clean neighborhood. Who'd a thunk?

SLB, you bring up a good point. I have a CCW permit, and won't hesistate to carry, even for what would seem like a "harmless" errand.

Hours later, police spokesman Mike Pena said a suspect had been arrested without incident in a retirement community in nearby Peoria.

GEEZ!

I drove right through that area too this afternoon on my way to my appointment around 4pm!

I need to stay in the East Valley....

It's the one up at Union Hills, near 83rd Ave. We go there often.

He's just an innocent bystander in all this.

My experience was the Black Panthers. Don't get me started on that little 'club'. After I assisted them in installing 6 new fresh air vents in an automobile of theirs, I never heard a word from them again. Hmmmm... Come to think of it, I never heard from that beautifully breasted blonde hippie girlfriend of mine either. Good riddance to bad rubbish. (She was quite a 'piece' of woman tho') Every woman I ever dated (or married) was a Conservative after that.

My point is that I had no politian approved permit either at that time. My job was selling industrial supplies in south-central L.A. (including Watts) down to Long Beach and I was fresh back from Vietnam. I knew 'the brothers' both good and bad. I just wish they would wise up and see that the illegal crush is hurting all Americans starting with their entry level brothers and that my zeal in protecting American borders is for US both.
