Dougherty is accused of locking Kilrain, his brain-damaged wife, in a bedroom for five years after she suffered an aneurysm. Kilrain, 46, weighed 81 pounds when police found her body Feb. 25 surrounded by decaying food and human waste.

In addition to murder, Dougherty, 53, an employee of an auto shop in Townsend, Del., is charged with manslaughter and abuse-neglect of a vulnerable adult. Dougherty's attorney said his client is innocent, and that Kilrain died of "natural causes." An autopsy concluded that she died of starvation and dehydration.

Too bad he didn't do it in Florida. He would be called a hero.

On Thursday, the judge threw out the case against Dougherty's live-in girlfriend, who faced misdemeanor neglect in the death of Mary Elizabeth Kilrain.

May the judge's wife's boyfriend do the same for him one day. Hey, Michael got away with it, so now every one who wants to do away with an inconvenient spouse apparently can now as well.

This is way different from the Terry Schiavo case - this was a woman who was not comotose or nothing like that - there was rotting food and s h i t lying around in that nasty room - she was disabled, but she was nothing like Terry Schiavo and those other cases. And that guy had his girlfriend staying there with her kid and his kids. I can't believe charges were dropped against her, she's like an accomplice in my opinion. How come they never kept the room clean or clean up after her? They treated her lower than a dog.

This guy claims he asked for help and said somebody told him he didn't qualify for help. This was out and out abuse in my opinion. If jurors find him not guilty then there's no justice in this world. But nothing surprises me anymore when Michael Jackson gets free reign to molest little boys.

Er...Terri Schiavo was not comatose, either, friend.

there...now we have it straight. It is the SAME type of situation, not the exact same details, but the same type of situation.

There is one difference. Terri's room was kept clean. Other than that, this is exactly the same. Terri wasn't comatose either. She was starved and dehydrated to death, and she was aware of it.

So when they starved Kilrain it was "natural" ... but they starved Terri because they said water and food were "artificial."

Lawyers can always find an argument for killing the patient, can't they?

I keep reading this article over and over again. The "facts" don't add up, imo.

She had an aneurysm. Wouldn't she have been hospitalized for it? If so, upon her release, her doctors would have a care directive(can't remember the proper term) prepared for her. If she was able to return home, nurses would have visited, and treated her condition. The disabled are covered under Medicare/Medicaid.

So, who dropped the ball? We need more facts.

Imo, given the information we do have, the gf is an accessory to murder. The 5 children should have been permanently removed from the home. If the victim was well enough to be "verbally agressive towards her daughters", then she would be verbally screaming for 5 years, behind that locked bedroom door. Children living in that type of environment are being mentally and psychologically abused.

Finally, how long was she dead before the cops found her, and who contacted them?

Unreal.

After the judicial murder of Terri I can not imagine that more people won't off their brain damaged "loved ones".

This is one sick world.

Clearly, they're using the Schiavo precedent.

The Schiavo precedent is not valid in this case. This woman was locked in her room, and starved to death. There was no court ordered death sentence. This bum and his gf took it upon themselves to mimic Teri's death, imo, hoping they could use it to defend murdering the woman.

How much life insurance was she worth?

But, but, but. . .this can't be murder. Starving someone to death is a euphoric way to end a miserable existence.

"This guy claims he asked for help and said somebody told him he didn't qualify for help."

I'm not disagreeing with your post. This just stuck out to me--so now lack of transfer funds taken from taxpayers is a reason for murder?

There was no court ordered death sentence.

But, but, but. . .isn't it up to the spouse to make the decision if the victim, er, patient is unable to do so? Isn't that what the judge in the Schiavo case stated?

This bum and his gf took it upon themselves to mimic Teri's death, imo, hoping they could use it to defend murdering the woman.

Murder is murder, whether you do it in a nice, clean hospice room or whether you do it in a dung-filled back room of your house.
