Families of the troops square off
Sacramento Bee ^ | 8/23/5 | Dan Nguyen

They lined up on opposite sides of the street in Sacramento on Monday - just like they've been doing in Crawford, Texas, for more than two weeks.

Holding pictures of their soldier sons, daughters, nieces and nephews, about 40 people gathered on the north side of Hallmark Drive near Cal Expo at lunchtime. They waved American flags while they waited for the "You Don't Speak for Me, Cindy" caravan to pass through Sacramento.

On the opposite side of the street, about 40 protesters, waving American flags and peace signs, showed their support for Cindy Sheehan, the anti-war mother from Vacaville who has fueled national debate on the war in Iraq.

Click here for more... Sheehan, whose Marine son was killed in the war, began a vigil on the road to President Bush's Crawford ranch on Aug. 6. She vowed to stay until he meets with her or until his vacation ends but is currently in Los Angeles to be with her mother, who had a stroke last week.

"My heart goes out to Cindy Sheehan for the loss of her son. However, when I stand back, as a mother, I see she's being pulled in a direction she wasn't expecting to go," said Deborah Johns, a Roseville mother whose son has served two tours in Iraq and who heads Northern California Marine Moms.

Johns is leading the "You Don't Speak for Me, Cindy" caravan, which made several stops in California on Monday and is expected to arrive Saturday in Crawford. Johns and others in the caravan - which is sponsored by the group Move America Forward - say Sheehan does not speak for all military families.

Both sides used the same chant, "Support the troops," though with different endings: "Bring them home" or "Finish the job."

We made need that "Stolen Valor" fellow over here. It is very suspicios sounding to have three sons in service and still see that mom protesting.

Possibly they joined up to get as far away from Mom as possible?

The media just takes their word for it and doesn't investigate further.

Possibly because the media has no idea how to investigate further, such as asking for their sons' names, their jobs, units, date of deployment etc.

I wonder if this is a tactic like the callers to the talk shows use--"Up until today I was a staunch Republican"--except now it's "I have (fill in number here) sons/daughters fighting in Iraq." 'Rats will say whatever they think will make their arguments more powerful, whether it's true or not.

No, Mrs. Johns. Mother Sheehan knows EXACTLY which direction she expected to go. She's a professional victim for hire. She's been an anti-America hack for decades.

No need to pity her. I sure don't.

It would also be incumbent on someone to verify that they indeed actually do have three sons serving in the military....not that I am a distrustful soul, mind you..

I don't really doubt that she has 3 sons in the service. We will have a mother of three sons in Iraq speak at our rally in Crawford on Saturday. The difference in the mothers is in the stark contrast of their attitudes. While one Mom is whinning that her sons voluntarily joined up, the other Mom is proud of her sons' valor and dedication.

I also don't doubt that there are some whinning servicemen in Iraq. It takes all kinds to build a military presence, and there are bound to be some that get over there, and don't like the discomfort of being there. I'm sure these whinners are a huge PITA for their commanding officers.

That's my suspicion. They are emboldened because Cindy's tactic of claiming Casey was "lied to by military recruiters" & then "brainwashed" has not been questioned. It worked.
Once she got away clean without ever having to give examples of what Casey said or wrote , the next logical thing is to make up other "children soldiers" who are victims of lies & brainwashing.

You are right of course, "It takes all kinds".....

However, the left has lied about their military credentials/military family members before and they tend to repeat themselves...........

Sheehan, whose Marine son was killed in the war,

...and her son was not a Marine - he was an Army Spc.

Right - apparently her son did not feel as she does or he never would have joined the military.

She dishonors his views and his efforts and distorts them into her views.

In other words, she is trashing the ideals and service of her son for her own political views. Shame on her.

She no longer deserves sympathy when she says the insurgents are the Freedom fighters. Apparently Cindy does not understand the word "freedom". Freedom does not mean torturing and killing those that do not jump to your command. Freedom does not mean living under a dictator that willfully kills his own people. Freedom does not mean giving away your democracy because you do not want to fight for it.

She is not worth the bullhorn she has been given. And, she is only one person - not the elected president. We did not elect Cindy to determine how America handles its defense and the safety of its citizens.

Time for her to shut up.

Cindy does not and will never speak for me - she speaks for the enemies of America - same as Jane Fonda did.

Here's his response to my email:

"He was not a marine. It was an error that came about when trying to characterize all the involved parents who had children in the military.

You are right that throws the article's credibility into question, but I'm not aware of any other errors. If you find any other, feel free to contact me or an editor.

Thanks,
Dan"
