Excellent points.

It's interesting how for some people the undefined notion of freedom of information trumps the concrete reality that the pictures will undermine the effort in Iraq. Of course, for them there's no tension between the two. Instead, it's a two-fer: the information gets out and the effort is undermined. Actually it's a one-fer with an incidental side effect: the effort is undermined, plus there's the freedom of information thing.

BTW, I wonder if the Geneva Convention rule against showing POWs could be used to block the release of the new pictures?

That's exactly what I'm wondering. Many in the MSM argued that it was "humiliating" and even culturally insensitive to air those pictures of Saddam and his sons. Yet, here they are promoting the release of some of the most "humiliating" photos the military has...of POWs.

The very reason we don't see the 9/11 attack rebroadcast is because the media fears it will inflame emotions towards Muslims...yet they have no problem inflaming the emotions of others towards America with these photos. These people are dangerous.
