Another U.N. outrage: Propaganda machine

Tuesday, August 23, 2005

The latest United Nations outrage is not its most notorious, costliest or most disgusting. But it is the quintessential U.N. scandal.

The U.N. underwrote the cost of thousands of banners, bumper stickers, mugs and T-shirts -- bearing the slogan "Today Gaza and Tomorrow the West Bank and Jerusalem."

The specialty advertising was distributed to Palestinian Arabs in the Gaza Strip, according to The New York Sun.

Using U.N. dollars for this Palestinian propaganda is particularly loathsome since Israel unilaterally decided to remove Israeli settlers from the Gaza Strip.

When Timothy Rothermel, representing the United Nations Development Program in the Gaza Strip, was asked about it, he said the financial support came from that U.N. program. But U.N. officials in New York said it did not.

And the official spin from the U.N. was that "We are emphatically neutral. ... We do not lend ourselves to political messaging in favor of any particular faction or ideology."

Misappropriated funds, playing favorites, conflicting explanations, questionable accounting, weasel words for culpable deniability and for good measure institutional anti-Semitism. And always, an indifferent mainstream media.

Just another day at Turtle Bay.

How many more times....

"Today Gaza and Tomorrow the West Bank and Jerusalem."

Kind of paraphases the words of another homocidal maniac not too many years ago by the name of adolph hitler:

"Today Germany, tomorrow the world".

They love to give other people's money away with no demand for responsibility or accountability. Hmmm... They sound like Democrats.

These so called Palestinians are nothing but terrorists. I am appalled that Sharon gave them the Gaza Strip, and that our country may have pressured him to do so.

Why should he appease terrorists?

I am not surprised that the UN would do this however. They are full of terrorists themselves.

It's very troubling.

Sharon is a hero to the Israeli's,and as an old general he must see ceding Gaza as a way to improve his defenses.

The Palestinian slogans sounded a lot like Secretary Rice last week. Bolton rightly condemned the UN being partisan. Who is condemning her sloganeering in the middle of this Israeli trauma?

Rice: "It cannot be Gaza only."
