Why of course she's the best. She chose you, so we know she's smart. LOL Ah yes, moose meat is what we live one. We actually ran out of moose meat one year and I was beside myself. We had to buy BEEF. Beef is so fatty compared to moose. We do buy beef burger though...but only because I refuse to grind up a perfectly good moose roast or moose steak. Caribou is good but it doesn't have protein, so you can't live on that alone.
You are very fortunate to be able to get local beef and pork. I was raised in Wisconsin so venison is something I also enjoy, but moose meat still beats it hands-down. As long as you don't shoot one in the "rut", the meat is deeelicious...not gamey at all.
We have a grandson...our first was born last December. Our son had returned from Iraq a couple of years ago and he and his wife blessed us with a beautiful baby boy. He's 8 months now and we just can't get enough of him.

Wow, that sounds really nice...the food and your location. I love water. I've always wanted to live near water...ocean, lake, river...no matter, but I do love the ocean. Still, I love my life and am thankful for it too. We do not have blackberries up here and I do miss them. I spent many days as a child picking blackberries. I do pick the wild cranberries and blueberries though. Our property is brimming with cranberries...our dogs' feet are always pink this time of the year from running through them.
I loved what you said about "time is not what is on the wall". I can really relate to that. I don't pay much attention to the date or the time either. :)

Hold the phone....If you want a REALLY great place...just drive through Panorama City in the San Fernando Valley...It will make you wish the border with Mexico was 40 feet tall with razor wire....I saw Mexican license plates all over the place........!

The two cities in CA that made the top 10 are nice alright, but just the fact that they're located in this state is a huge negative.

I have met Basil (once), but when you visited the meeting at her home I could not be there. I am West Texas, not Heart of Texas, yet with no chapter here, I FReeped with them in H.O.T TWICE...once in Austin and once in Crawford. Basil could not make it to that second one because of her health at the time.
The Leftist anti-American Peaceniks have taken over Crawford numerous times before, and a few of us stood in the breach when we could. Thank God this caravan is coming, with what looks to be HUGE reinforcements for those who stand in the breach. (I cannot make it because of 24/7 care of my mother, who has Dementia and is not doing well.)
My thoughts and prayers are with you all.
Wish I could be there to meet YOU and say "thank you for FReeRepublic".
But a big question: what if you don't _want_ to live in a "metropolitan area"?
I'll be retiring in a little over 4 years and want to get AWAY from places like that. I don't want to be within 75-100 miles of _any_ major city (or even the minor ones).
Right now I'm thinking north/central PA (not even any interstates there), but perhaps some other Freepers could comment on good _rural_ areas to be in.
For me, must be in temperate (i.e., not HOT climates, nothing in the South (too hot) or Southwest (states doomed by the Mexican invasion).

I'm a fan of Robert Service too. When I was a little girl, my parents had a record of Stuart Hamlin narrating Robert Service poems. The record featured, "The Spell of the Yukon" and other poems Robert Service had written about Alaska and the Yukon. One of my favorites was, "Big Wicked Bill"...about man and his malamute. And of course, the Cremation of Sam McGee always cracked me up. Oh, and the "Lure of the Little Voices". Somewhere around here I have a cassette tape that my folks gave me...they made a recording of that old record and gave it to me as a gift years later. They knew how much I loved listening to it. :)
Well, I imagine you're off the rig by now. So now it's your turn to sleep, and I need to get busy around here. Have a beeeaauutifullll day. :)
