Televangelist calls for Chavez' death

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - Religious broadcaster Pat Robertson called on Monday for the assassination of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, calling him a "terrific danger" to the United States.

Robertson, founder of the Christian Coalition of America and a former presidential candidate, said on "The 700 Club" it was the United States' duty to stop Chavez from making Venezuela a "launching pad for communist infiltration and Muslim extremism."

Chavez has emerged as one of the most outspoken critics of President Bush, accusing the United States of conspiring to topple his government and possibly backing plots to assassinate him. U.S. officials have called the accusations ridiculous.

"You know, I don't know about this doctrine of assassination, but if he thinks we're trying to assassinate him, I think that we really ought to go ahead and do it," Robertson said. "It's a whole lot cheaper than starting a war ... and I don't think any oil shipments will stop."

Electronic pages and a message to a Robertson spokeswoman were not immediately returned Monday evening.

Venezuela is the fifth largest oil exporter and a major supplier of oil to the United States. The CIA estimates that U.S. markets absorb almost 59 percent of Venezuela's total exports.

Venezuela's government has demanded in the past that the United States crack down on Cuban and Venezuelan "terrorists" in Florida who they say are conspiring against Chavez.

Robertson accused the United States of failing to act when Chavez was briefly overthrown in 2002.

"We have the ability to take him out, and I think the time has come that we exercise that ability," Robertson said.

"We don't need another $200 billion war to get rid of one, you know, strong-arm dictator," he continued. "It's a whole lot easier to have some of the covert operatives do the job and then get it over with."

"...is it that only Christians have the right to demand the deaths of others?"

Oh please. If I'd said that anyone should die or be killed, or even thought it, I'd be on my knees in the Confessional asking pardon..

"How do you know He doesn't?

If you are Christian, then you are Jewish!"

I know because Jesus told us of a New Way. I know because I don't know of one single recorded word that ever came from Jesus' mouth that in any way gives a green light for what Robertson said.

"He doesn't pray to statues and dead men and women."

Hmmm... Well, I do, along with the Pope. (I won't even attempt to explain why we do because I don't think you really even care to know. I think you'd rather be able to talk about "those Catholics" that pray to statues and dead people.)

A Catholic bacher. I new it long before I finished your post.

Pat Robertson is America's version of the Ayatollah Khomeini. He needs to be sent to Illinois to run for a US Senate seat get embarrassed so that we can all laugh him out of public life. The only 'useful' purpose Reverend Nut-job seems to serve is the occasional appearance on CNN to make Christian Conservatives look like Neanderthals. It's a genuine shame that decent and honorable Americans have their good name trashed by being associated with Pat Robertson.

So some slack-jawed snake-handling shyster sky-pilot shoots off his fat mouth about matters he knows nothing about.

This is hardly news. Does Paris Hilton have an opinion about Chavez? Should we publish it?

I'll lay odds her IQ is higher than Robertson's - he's a fargin' maroon!.

The world would have been far better off with a Cuba that was the world's largest offshore casino and whore house than what it got by Kennedy blinking in his confrontation with the USSR.

Just think of all the fun that the world has missed out on for the last 50 years.

Robertson just doesn't know when to keep his fundamentalist mouth shut. This time he's gone off the deep end. This ranks right up there with Oral Roberts accusing God of demanding his money or his life.

I am a Christian, but fundamentalist televangelists irk me. Specially since they've got such a big following of people that hang on every word that they say. They need to act more responsibly. As scripture says, "theirs is the greater condemnation."

LOL! You will learn to ignore some people around here. They wait for a chance to Christian bash. Even if it means sticking up for a dictator like Chavez.

One of the hardest things for pseudo Christians to fathom is God killed millions and sanctioned the killing of millions by the Jews in the Bible.

It was God doing the sanctioning, not those who think so highly of themselves to assume that they speak for him.

As I recall, he was also calling on God to create "more vacancies" on the Supreme Court.

Pat Robertson is really a hoo-doo shaman for whom "God" is simply a source of supernatural power that can be invoked to call down curses upon his enemies.

Cuba sees its chance to go to war with the US through Chavez. With our open borders policy, the time is right for communist insurgents to come across the border, and be given citizenship by our politiicans.

Had John Kennedy not chickened out and gone after Casto and the commies in Cuba, we wouldn't be faciing this problem now.
