My response to the form "letter to the editor" from WesPac that appeared in my local newspaper

Posted on 08/22/2005 7:23:59 PM PDT by HankReardon

In Friday's SDN there was a letter to the editor submitted by Arthur Sankley of Mason, Ohio. If you go to forclark.com or WesPac you will find this letter and how to send it to your local newspaper. This pre-composed propaganda from a Democratic web site is intended to deceive and mislead. We call this lying.

Arthur Sankley and others like him who will follow the directions at the web site and send this "letter" to newspapers across the nation are allowing themselves to remain ignorant while being misled. Doing this, while many of our brave military are in harms way, often being seriously wounded and sometimes killed while fighting the enemies of this nation.

President Bush's "vacations" are worked through by the President and all his staff. Democratic politicians must think we do not know this. Democratic politicians must think we are stupid.

The PDB of August 2001 entitled "Bin Laden Determined to Strike in U.S." was not a bolt of breaking news. Al Qaeda had been attacking Americans and American interests for many years. On February 23, 1993 Al Qaeda operatives assisted agents of the Iraqi government as they tried to bring the WTC down with a truck bomb, in the U.S.

President Bush did meet with Cindy Sheehan before she went on her anti-American/anti-miltary running rant.

Despite what the mainstream media and the Democrats tell you any student of history knows the Iraq War continues to be a success. The Democrats and media are trying to promote disfavorable opinion by overwhelming the public whith every piece of bad news they come across. They are aiding the enemy. Could WW II have been won with this going on?

If terrorists attacks have tripled it is because they are desperately fighting for their very existance. And the terrorist attacks happen elsewhere, not here for a reason.

Any off shore investment used by terrorists which Republicans are not going after because it would disrupt their investments should be named. But do not ask Arthur Sankey for any answers, he is just a parrotting dupe.

Democrats wanted new security positions to be unionized federal workers. It would be difficult to get rid of them if they were, so the Republicans were against this. The Federal Employees Union advocates Democratic candidates. This was a case of putting politics ahead of national security, you know, like the Clinton years.

New energy technology advancements will come from the private sector, not the government. Meanwhile, what should have been done years ago should be done immediately. More oil fields should be opened and most of all more oil refining capabilities should be built and put online. This needs to be done yesterday! The anti-American environmentalists and Democrats are obstructing this.

Food is transported when there is oil. When the oil crisis hits, the food will run out first in the cities. Do not go there when this happens. Some hunger crazed people will forget they are human and resort to cannabalism. Do not for a minute think this is so far-fetched that it could not happen. Millions will be threatened with real starvation.

If this happens, you can thank the Democrats for hindering any expansion in oil recovery and refining here at home. And dupes like Mr. Arthur Sankey who cannot, or will not think for themselves.

Would someone that knows how to put up the link to the form letter at WesPac please do so, thank you.

I have not submitted this yet, I would like everyone's thoughts and comments on it, thank you.

For one, don't bother. You are writing a letter to the editor, the same genius who printed that letter in the first place, and you are exposing one of the biggest media manipulations of the DemocRATic Party.

This letter has as much chance of making it into the newspaper as the highlights of the Eastern New Zealand Cricket League games last night.

Even if true, this bit is over-the-top and makes you sound nuts.

Don't bother doing that, nobody here wants to go there, and nobody can click a link in a newspaper.

Seriously, never provide a link taking people AWAY from the point you want to make. Quoting a small section of the "WetPants" web site would make more sense.

They will print it gleefully because of that "cannibal" thing.

I certainly would submit the letter since one never knows what will be printed, but I would leave out the cannablism hyperbole. This is based merely on conjecture. If you are refuting point-by-point, I'd instead say that food shortages could provoke some to break laws which they ordinarily would not do. Don't go overboard.

The disruption of oil WILL result to starvation this is a fact. Food does not just magically appear on the shelves. What sounds nuts about suggesting this? We have cities of 3 million, 5, 6, 7, million, even over 10 million people living in them. A disruption of oil means the real threat of starvation to these people.

I sure as heck hope so. What's the name of your local paper? I am betting it's not the Cincinnati Enquirer, Cincinnati Post, Hamilton Journal-News, Dayton Daily News, Columbus Dispatch, Toledo Blade, Cleveland Plain Dealer, Akron Beacon-Journal, Canton Repository, Youngstown Vindicator, NY Times, Washington Post, LA Times, San Fran Chronicle, St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Atlanta Jouranl & Constitution, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Philadelphia Inquirer, Minneapolis Star Tribune, Seattle Times, Seattle Post-Intelligencer, Detriot News, Detriot Free Press, Indianapolis Star, Chicago Tribune or Sun Times, Dallas Morning News, Houston Chronicle, Tampa Tribune, Miami Herald, Boston Globe, or Las Vegas Review Journal.

Some of the reasons posed on last nights thread would serve this response well. It does look pretty good for a starter. You need to read over it a few times. You have some run ons and some syntax problems. Run spell check and disfavorable is not a word. Don't forget the left torpedoed the US nuke plants.

You made some spelling errors. These need correction:

disfavorable
whith
existance
parrotting
cannabalism
miltary

The Sidney Daily News, small town. The editor still has no clue the letter was parrotted of the WesPac website.

He even ran the "Bush wants to dismatle Social Security" form letter from the DNC website, 3 times, word for word from 3 different people.

Letters to the editor need to be tight, and focused like a laser. They need to be quick and punchy, and easy to read.

Often, the LTE page of a newspaper will also have a 250-word limit - if you give them too much to cut, they won't bother trying.

I've gotten letters printed word-for-word on many occasions in newspapers in three different states, so I know what I'm talking about.

Here's an example of how to tighten up your prose:

In Friday's SDN there was a letter to the editor submitted by Arthur Sankley of Mason, Ohio. If you go to forclark.com or WesPac you will find this letter and how to send it to your local newspaper. This pre-composed propaganda from a Democratic web site is intended to deceive and mislead. We call this lying.

On Friday, propaganda masquerading as a letter to the editor appeared in this paper's pages. Arthur Sankley copied his letter from the ForClark.com website.

It would be better if you could provide the exact URL of the letter - I don't see it offhand on the ForClark.com home page.

Also, "WesPAC" is the name of a petroleum company - www.wespac.com - it's best to avoid using abbreviations or lingo unless they are very widely known and immediately recognized.

Also, this is just plumb crazy:

Food is transported when there is oil. When the oil crisis hits, the food will run out first in the cities. Do not go there when this happens. Some hunger crazed people will forget they are human and resort to cannabalism. Do not for a minute think this is so far-fetched that it could not happen. Millions will be threatened with real starvation.

That's a real eye-roller. Cannibalism? Starvation? Please!

Stick with the real, important point, without all the extra nonsense - the price of oil affects the price of everything we buy, because everything we buy is shipped by truck or plane back and forth across the country, including food.

Too many points in a letter to the newspaper dilutes the message. Stick to one or two main points, keep it as tight as possible without a lot of extra fluff, and you'll get published before you know it.

No, actually, it doesn't.

Did people starve when gas lines stretched for miles during the Arab oil embargo? There's no reason to think that they'll starve this time either.

People don't starve during massive earthquakes in California, they don't starve during devastating hurricanes in the Gulf, and they won't starve if a trucker has to pay $500 instead of $200 to fill up his fuel tank.

They might have to pay $10 for a head of lettuce in the middle of winter, or $15 for a bunch of green bannanas from Ecuador, but they won't starve.

Any disruption of oil would be slow and progressive. It comes from all over the earth via many different channels. It's a network, not a pipe. Today's distribution models are highly effective and would not allow for any large city to choke for a significant period.

Theoretical scenerios of NO oil is like asking what if gravity stopped working. Yeah, we'd all be screwed. And?

Okay, folks, you all have convinced me to leave the consequece of not getting the food to the shelves out of the letter. But my question is, When the oil has stopped arriving and ran out, how does the food get moved around?

And what is the correct URL to the forclark.com website?

A letter to the editor generally has to be 250 words or less. Just shrink it down and point out that "author" of the letter is nothing but a "cut and paste liberal".

400 words, I have submitted dozens of letters to this newspaper.

Hey, thanks to everyone straightening me out about the "cities not being able to get food" thing.

What about the other points I make? the controversy over the new sucurity personnel? The off shore investments? The August 5, 2001 PDB?
